The Kaiyuan Temple Pagoda is an octagonal pavilion-style building, one of the tallest existing ancient brick pagodas in China. Its dignified and imposing design features eleven stories, each progressively smaller than the last. The internal structure consists of an outer pagoda encircling an inner pagoda, with a spiral staircase leading from the inner pagoda to the top. The pagoda's structure, with its inner and outer layers connected, creates a unique feature: a pagoda within a pagoda. The Kaiyuan Temple Pagoda in Dingxian County is a Buddhist pagoda that integrates architectural art, Buddhist culture, calligraphy, and painting, holding an important place in the history of ancient Chinese architecture.
I arrived at 8 a.m. to try and get one of the 60 limited tickets available each day. The tower opened at 8:30 a.m., but there was only one person ahead of me. Some people might feel that the 100 yuan ticket price is not worth it, but seeing a 70-year-old man who wanted to go up but was too old made me realize that you should do everything you want to do as early as possible, including climbing the oldest existing brick tower in China.

West Street in Baoding stretches approximately 800 meters east to west. Originally built during the Chunhua era of the Song Dynasty, it is one of the best-preserved historical and cultural blocks in China, showcasing the architectural styles of the Ming, Qing, and Republican periods. The street is primarily composed of cultural and commercial buildings, but also includes government offices, schools, ancestral halls, water houses, financial institutions, and traditional residences. It was once hailed as "the No. 1 Street in Zhili" and "a famous street in the North." During the late Qing Dynasty and early Republican era, the government auctioned off official properties, converting many government offices into shops, further boosting West Street's commercial prosperity. At the same time, the street's architecture was significantly influenced by Western styles, resulting in the unique architectural features of West Street today.
The ancient atmosphere hits you in the face. This ancient street, which was built in the Song Dynasty, is about 846 meters long. It preserves the architectural style of the Ming and Qing Dynasties and the Republic of China. It is known as the "No. 1 Street in Zhili" and the "Famous Street in the North". Walking on the bluestone-paved street, the buildings on both sides are staggered, with sloping gray walls, semi-circular arched doors and windows, and brick carving craftsmanship, showing the combination of Chinese and Western styles everywhere. The shops on the street are dazzling, with both traditional intangible cultural heritage handicrafts such as paper-cutting, pottery, and purple sand, as well as modern cultural and creative products and specialty coffee shops, which are dazzling. I came to Yichunlou, a century-old building in the Republic of China that has now become a national trend cultural and creative store. The store displays various cultural and creative products with Baoding culture as elements, which makes people love it. Continuing forward, the sign of Daoxiangcun came into view, and the aroma of pastries wafted out of the store, making people stop and taste it. The food on West Street is even more mouth-watering. Time-honored delicacies such as Heji Tanghulu, Anjia Zhabing, and Caohe Donkey Meat carry the memories of generations. I ordered a cup of "Donkey Fire Latte", a creative drink that combines traditional donkey meat fire with coffee. It has a unique taste and is memorable. As night falls and the lights come on, West Street becomes more lively. The ancient buildings shine under the lights, and the intangible cultural heritage performances and traditional skills on the street attract many tourists to stop and watch. Here, the ancient and the modern are intertwined, and the tradition and fashion collide, making people linger. Baoding West Street is not only an ancient street, but also a living historical and cultural museum. It made me feel the heritage and vitality of the ancient city, and also made my memory of this city more profound.

Dingzhou is a county-level city under Baoding. Although small, it boasts a treasure museum and a famous ancient pagoda. The ancient city of Dingzhou is situated around the pagoda, with a grand city gate and quiet alleyways surrounding it. The antique-style street is relatively quiet during the day, with few shops, but it might become more lively at night.
Han Qi governed Dingzhou for five years. Upon his departure, "the people of Dingzhou stayed behind to establish a ancestral temple, their cries resonating throughout the countryside, and thirty articles of benevolence were carved into stone." Every time I see his statue, I feel at peace. 👍 Tonight, I'll have to trouble Prime Minister Han to watch over my car. 😁 Tickets to Dingzhou Ancient City attractions are currently on sale at 20% off. The fact that Dingzhou Imperial Examination Hall ticket prices have doubled in the past two years is baffling.

I came here once before, and this time I came again. It's pretty good and quite big. My kids like to play in the water park area. There are waves at designated spots, and lots of big slides. I soaked in the hot spring area, which has many pools. I soaked in a few and even got a scrub. The price was okay, 29 yuan for a scrub. The hot spring entrance was also decent and not expensive. I'll come again when I have time.
I like it as always. It's not far from home, 40 minutes from the city. The environment is elegant and pleasant. It would be better if the outdoor pool is fully open during the holidays. After all, the pool is not big. If it's a family, it's okay, but it's crowded with outsiders.
