元寇の歴史を感じることができました。
福岡県庁前の東公園にあります。1274,1281年の二度にわたる元寇の時に亀山上皇が「我が身をもって国難に代わらん」と敵国降伏を祈願したとされます。1904年に蒙古軍が押し寄せた博多にこの像が亀山上皇の像が建てられました。台座には「敵国降伏」と書かれています。近くには元寇資料館もあります。また西区の方に行くと「防塁前」というバス停があったり、海岸線には元寇の襲来に備えた防塁も残っています。
