The bookstore is located a five-minute walk from the center of Porto, close to the Soares dos Reis Art Museum and the Museum of Photography.The history of Lelo begins in 1894, when Jose Pinto de Souza Lello took over the management of the Chardron bookstore, engaged in the publishing and book editing business. The expansion of the store required the construction of a new building on Carmelitas Street, where Livraria Lello is now located.The house was designed by Javier Estevez, taking into account the specifics of the bookstore. The facade is made in neo-Gothic style. The building is classified as a national monument. Livraria Lello opened its doors in January 1906 and became the flagship store of a Portuguese publishing house.
