I've got a story to share about my recent trip to Japan, more specifically, a little gem called Byodoin Temple in Uji. So, after a quick train ride from Kyoto, my sister and I found ourselves in Uji. Our stomachs were grumbling, so we refueled with a scrumptious lunch before diving into the temple experience. Byodoin Temple, folks, is a bona fide icon of Japan. The architecture was mind-blowing, with intricate details that seemed to whisper tales of centuries past. We explored the stunning Phoenix Hall, which stood tall and proud amidst a picturesque pond. The tranquil atmosphere made it a perfect spot to reflect and find some inner peace. Visiting Byodoin Temple was one of the highlights of our Japanese escapade. It's a place that not only showcases Japan's rich history but also nourishes the soul. Slow Travel in the Tranquil and Quaint Town – Uji Byodo-in Temple, with nearly a thousand years of history, is one of Japan's most representative World Heritage sites. Ujigami Shrine, the oldest shrine in Japan, is also listed as a World Heritage site, and every beam and pillar is considered a national treasure. The representative building within Byodo-in, the Phoenix Hall (originally named Amida Hall), houses an approximately 8-meter-tall statue of Amitabha Tathagata, carved by the famous Heian-era Buddhist master Jocho. The walls and pillars around it are vividly painted with images of heavenly beings, phoenixes, and arabesque patterns, decorating the hall as if it were a magnificent and dreamy Pure Land. The image of Byodo-in on the Japanese 10-yen coin and the phoenix on the 10,000-yen note are both from Byodo-in in Uji, Kyoto. Ujigami Shrine was built in the year 313 and has a history of over 1,700 years. It's the season when wisteria blooms again, the purple sea of flowers makes people linger and forget to leave. Wisteria blooms in spring, from mid-April to mid-May. Wisteria flowers bloom abundantly. The clusters of flowers hang between the green vine tendrils, forming a flower corridor on the courtyard wall or climbing on a pergola, playing a role in greening, beautifying, increasing oxygen and absorbing dust. Wisteria is a noble symbol because of its flourishing and gorgeous posture. Wisteria hangs on cloud trees, its flowers suitable for spring; dense leaves conceal singing birds, fragrant breeze lingers with beautiful people. Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai also left beautiful poems for wisteria. People who like flower and tree bonsai are people with taste. In this life, they must come to Japan's Byodo-in Phoenix Hall to see the wisteria once.

The Byodi-In Temple was a special experience for our family. It's unbelievably beautiful and tranquil. The scenery is stunning, and I recommend visiting. Entry fee $5 can be paid at the booth at the entrance. If you are in Honolulu do not miss this place, your Hawaii trip is unfinished if you miss this place Super touristy temple without even any monks, but it's really nice, especially situated in the valley of temples. It doesn't take more than a half hour, even with the souvenirs and some snacks.

Take advantage of the snow in Kyoto and come see the snow-covered Byodoin Temple, with its two golden phoenixes perched on the eaves. Against the white snow, the gold shines even brighter, sparkling and radiant. Looking at these golden phoenixes truly makes one feel incredibly happy.

When it comes to Uji in Kyoto, people first think of matcha. Although it is known as the world-famous hometown of matcha, in fact, Uji's charm is not only matcha. ⭕The Byodo-in Temple, built in the 11th century, was named a "World Cultural Heritage" for its well-preserved architecture, paintings, crafts, and sculpture art. The most important building is the Phoenix Hall, which enshrines the Amitabha Buddha and 52 bodhisattva statues in the clouds. The design on the back of the 10 yen coin is the Phoenix Hall, while the design on the back of the 10,000 yen note is the golden bronze phoenix statue set at the north and south ends of the central hall roof. In addition, there is a museum called the "Ho-o-do Museum" that specializes in exhibiting cultural relics of the Byodo-in Temple. ⭕Every year in mid-to-late April, the wisteria flowers in the grounds of Byodoin Temple bloom. In the gentle morning breeze, the light and shadow sway, exuding a romantic early summer atmosphere. ⭕Coming out of Byodoin Temple, continue along the Uji River to reach Uji Shrine and Uji Shrine. These two shrines have cute 🐰 figures everywhere. It is said that when the prince Tadamitsu Wakairatsuko (うじのわきいらつこ), who was one of the gods, moved to Uji, he unfortunately got lost, but fortunately met a white rabbit who showed him the way. This white rabbit was regarded as a messenger sent by the gods to guide people towards the right path. It is worth mentioning that Uji Shrine is the oldest surviving shrine in Japan. ⭕Continue forward from the shrine and you will arrive at Fudesan (Daijisan). ⛰️Not very high, with an altitude of only 131 meters, it is very suitable for hiking.
