The Netherlands, situated on the lowlands in the northwest of Europe, has a long a proud history as a great seafaring nation. Dutch sailors have plied the waves for centuries and even today Amsterdam and Rotterdam are great ports, intimately connected to the global economy. Amsterdam’s stately architecture makes for picturesque postcards. The city has more canals than Venice and a host of world class museums and cafes. People come from around the world to see classic Dutch tulip farms and their iconic windmills. In The Hague, visitors can tour the world-famous Peace Palace, home to the International Court of Justice and the Permanent Court of Arbitration. In Maastricht, youthful energy abounds in the city’s arts and cultural scene. There is much to recommend in the Netherlands. It’s a great place to visit as part of any European adventure.
