Xiqiao Mountain in Foshan is one of the four famous mountains in southern Guangdong, known as the "Beacon of Pearl River Civilization." It is both an ancient volcano formed millions of years ago and a scenic mountain steeped in history. This weekend, my family and I visited to experience firsthand the unique charm of the blend of natural beauty and historical significance. Xiqiao Mountain is an extinct volcano. Millions of years ago, an underwater volcanic eruption slowly shaped the mountain. It's not particularly high; its main peak, Dake Peak, is only 344 meters above sea level, yet it boasts seventy-two unique peaks, thirty-six caves, and numerous clear springs and waterfalls, all surrounded by lush Lingnan forests. We took the cable car up the mountain, the endless sea of trees stretching below, a verdant expanse, and a refreshing breeze dispelling the summer heat. Upon reaching the summit, the first thing that catches the eye is the magnificent bronze statue of Guanyin of the South China Sea. The 61.9-meter-tall Guanyin statue stands serenely on Daxian Peak, its face serene and solemn. Ascending the steps to the platform, one can gaze out over the vast expanse of the Pearl River Delta's plains, villages, and fields, a truly expansive view. The nearby Baofeng Temple, with its ancient charm, fragrant incense smoke, and the gentle tolling of its bells, brings a sense of peace and tranquility. Afterwards, we visited Tianhu Park. Originally an ancient volcanic crater, this area boasts a tranquil lake embraced by verdant mountains. The lake's surface shimmers, and the banks are shaded by lush trees. Scattered pavilions dot the lakeside, and occasionally, one can enjoy a captivating high-pole lion dance performance, lively and exciting, showcasing the charm of Lingnan folk customs. Strolling along the lakeside path, listening to birdsong in the woods, and watching the reflections of the trees in the water is incredibly relaxing. Xiqiao Mountain is not only renowned for its beautiful scenery but also for its rich history. It was once a large-scale stone tool manufacturing site in ancient times, where early inhabitants polished stone tools, marking the beginning of early civilization in the Pearl River Delta. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, many scholars established academies here to teach and study, thus Xiqiao Mountain is also known as a "famous mountain of Neo-Confucianism." Shiyan Rock is an underwater quarry site dating back to the Song Dynasty. The massive, cool, and deep caves bear the marks of ancient craftsmen, silently telling stories from a thousand years ago. At the foot of the mountain lies the hometown of martial arts master Wong Fei-hung, where Southern Lion Dance and martial arts culture have been passed down through generations. Walking through the mountains, the fragrance of grass and trees surrounds you, and the clear springs gurgle. Mountains, rivers, ancient temples, caves, and human stories intertwine. While Xiqiao Mountain lacks the ruggedness of high mountains, it possesses the unique gentle and profound beauty of Lingnan's landscape. It allowed me to appreciate the wonders of nature and understand the long-standing Lingnan culture. This trip to Xiqiao Mountain was incredibly rewarding and will remain unforgettable.

Foshan Ancestral Temple is a must-visit landmark located in the heart of Foshan, surrounded by a lively commercial district with easy access to public transportation. Originally built during the Yuanfeng period of the Northern Song Dynasty, it boasts a rich history and showcases classic Lingnan architecture.

The temple complex includes the historic Ancestral Temple buildings, the Confucius Temple, the Wong Fei-hung Memorial Hall, and the Ip Man Hall. Visitors can admire the traditional structures and also enjoy live lion dance and martial arts performances that bring local culture to life.

The Ancestral Temple is a museum well worth visiting. The lion dance performances are excellent and allow children to learn about Guangdong's lion dance culture. The museum is large and offers a glimpse into Foshan's martial arts and scholarly culture. Unfortunately, the Wong Fei-hung Museum was under renovation when I visited, which was a disappointment.
