After being lifted from Martial Law in 1987, Green Island Prison was abolished. It has been reconstructed to the “Human Rights Cultural Park in Green Island” for commemorating the democrats with undue oppression and it is an important base for human rights education. The towering walls, wire mesh, playground, auditorium and eight-diagram building are retained in the Green Island Prison. Many historical materials related to the white terror period are displayed in the park. The narrow prison has a dark and heavy atmosphere. Even after many years, the heavy atmosphere still lingers in it.
