Guanghan White Horse Temple is located on the banks of the Yazi River in the western part of Guanghan City, near the ancient ruins of Sanxingdui.
The temple got its name from monks who traveled from the White Horse Temple in Luoyang, carrying Buddhist scriptures to Guanghan on white horses. It was also known as Fenjing Temple, referencing the transmission of Buddhist scriptures from the Western Regions to Sanxing.
Its origins date back to the Eastern Han Dynasty, and it reached its peak during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. However, in modern times, the temple suffered significant damage during wartime and was nearly destroyed during the Cultural Revolution.
The White Horse Temple we see today has been fully restored. It is expansive in scale, with grand architecture surrounded by lush gardens filled with greenery and flowers—making it a site well worth visiting.
