According to OIC, 2020 summer games will most likely be delayed until 2021, with full details to be determined over the next four weeks. For those who have booked your flights and hotels and tickets, what happens now?

No. This year's Olympic Games is the first Game delayed due to the risks of pandemic.

Canada says if the 2020 Olympics is not postponed, there will be no Canadian athletes at Tokyo. This was the first country to make this kind of statement facing the coronavirus pandemic. A number of athletes and National Olympic Committees have also stated that they are unable to continue training in this environment, and contribute to the postponement of the event. Cancellation of the Tokyo 2020 Games is not on the agenda according to IOC Executive Board.

Yes.

Olympics Games have been delayed 3 times in history, all due to war. The three scheduled and cancelled games were in 1916, 1940 and 1944 affected by World War I and World War II.

July 24, 2020 – August 9, 2020

Now there have been no official announcement for the tickets as they will make the decision for 4 weeks. All tickets have a force majeure clause, which might get organizers off the hook of paying refunds if the coronavirus is deemed to be “beyond Tokyo 2020’s reasonable control.”The Olympic Games tickets are seperated into two category: Residents of Japanese and overseas residents. Tickets for overseas residents have already sold once as lottory in June 2019, and the next round of tickets could be purchased this spring on the official website.

Airlines are waiving change fees mostly till the end of May due to the mass COVID-19 lockdown. For major airline cancellation policies:

If you have booked the flights in July, the cancellation policy may not cover for then. You could call airline and ask if you could get a refund. Or if you are willing to take the chance, all major carriers are cutting down flights, especially international flights. There is a chance that your flight would be canceled as well.

Hotels are having different policies for cancellation. If you have booked directly from the hotel, call the reservation center and see if you can rearrange the jouney. If you have booked and paid through an OTA, contact OTA to know the current policy. Don't worry if you cannot get a full refund now, policies changes quick these days. Contact them later to find if there are better way to cover your loss.

This July, Tokyo will embrace the olympics back after 56 years . The game in 1964 Tokyo made a major change to Japan and this year the city has encountered another challenge - coronavirus. For people who have bought the tickets or intended to watch the game alive, it's a struggle question for wether visit Tokyo or not.

The coronavirus first detected in Wuhan, in Central China’s Hubei Province in early December. The virus is quite fatal. Current estimates suggest COVID-19 is lethal in roughly 2% of patients. Of these the elderly and those with preexisting health conditions are most at risk.

For those who have buy the tickets or intended to buy, consult your insurance agency if you want a refund.

The venues for 2020 Olympics are divided into two parts:

the "Heritage Zone" which houses several iconic venues used at the Tokyo 1964 Games and further sustains the enduring legacy of Tokyo 1964; and the "Tokyo Bay Zone" which serves as a model for innovative urban development and symbolises the exciting future of the city.

Different venues could be quite far away from each other. Tokyo has a quite complicated yet fast tram system. Although there are tens of millions of office workers working in Tokyo, many of them do not all live in Tokyo. Office workers living around Tokyo such as Kanagawa, Chiba, Saitama and even Ibaraki sit every day. Taking advantage of this convenient transportation network, the accommodation range during the Olympic Games can be expanded.

Hotels in Tokyo is quite expensive even compared to other metropolitans around the world. A four star hotel with limited square room could cost $120-150. During the summer olympics time, the prices goes even higher. The luxury hotels has a lower bump than the budget hotels. Onsen ryokans, the traditional Japanese hotels, will open the reservation 2-3 month ahead so you could try them for luck.

If you are going to Tokyo this summer and still looking for lodging, here is a list for you.
