Reviews: EXPLORA III

Guest user2026-10-27

The cruise experience was excellent in every aspect, especially the spacious rooms, which surpassed most five-star hotels. The food quality was also superb, exceeding the standards of many restaurants. The most convenient aspect was that almost all meals and drinks were available on board; you could eat and drink wherever you wanted without additional charges, including tips (except for a few Michelin-starred restaurants). Areas for service improvement include promptly informing passengers of the ship's departure and arrival port information, especially if the original port information changes. During my recent cruise, I encountered a port change when boarding in Quebec City, and the berth was quite far away and not even visible. I couldn't get a response from the cruise line's WeChat customer service platform in China, and I eventually found out about the situation at the Quebec City Visitor Center.

Reviews: EXPLORA III

Guest user2026-10-26

Having sailed on the Regent SuperStar Virgo and MSC Magnifica, and also on the Hapag-Lloyd and Slieve Sea expedition ships, I was incredibly curious when I saw the Explora III, especially since this voyage started in Quebec, promising a perfect fall foliage season. When I booked, it was less than a month before departure, so there weren't many room options. However, I unexpectedly got room 10055, which had a great view and was conveniently located for the elevator and pool. These 10 days were incredibly relaxing; I explored every corner I could, ate at every restaurant, and attended every evening show. I didn't feel lonely at all; the food was great, the conversations were wonderful, and it was quiet and comfortable. The itinerary was superbly planned, especially the New York portion. I've been to New York many times, but I've never had the panoramic view of Manhattan at dawn and dusk from a ship. The attention to detail was also remarkable. When departing from Halifax, there were three large cruise ships at the pier, but only the Explora arranged a farewell with bagpipes, setting sail to soothing music – it instantly lifted my spirits. Special thanks to my housekeeper, Keith, whose care was truly meticulous and thoughtful. I've only selected nine photos to review, as it's difficult to express my genuine appreciation. All I can say is: there will definitely be a next time, to experience the most beautiful moments of wandering the world.

Bangkok Where to Stay

Bangkok’s got plenty of places to stay, each district with its own feel—from Sukhumvit’s buzz to the old-world charm near the Grand Palace. Whatever your plans, there’s a spot that fits.

Bangkok Best Time to Visit

Winter (December–February) is Bangkok’s optimal season, offering cooler temperatures, clear skies, and vibrant festivals. Avoid April’s extreme heat and September’s monsoon peak for comfortable exploration. Spring: Sweltering 30–40°C (86–104°F); intense humidity. Songkran Festival water fights (mid-April); sunrise visits to Wat Arun; mangoes and durian peak at Or Tor Kor Market. Summer: Hot, humid 28–36°C (82–97°F); often thunderstorms. Emerald Buddha glows in post-rain light; covered long-tail boat tours through khlongs (canals). Autumn: Warm, wet 26–34°C (79–93°F); monsoon downpours. Loy Krathong lanterns on Chao Phraya River (November); golden Wat Pho reclining Buddha misted by rain.. Winter: Mild, dry 22–32°C (72–90°F); hazy sunshine. New Year flower markets, cool evenings at Asiatique’s riverside dining.

Bangkok Travel Tips

1. Dress Right for Temples and the Grand Palace When you’re heading to the Grand Palace or temples like Wat Phra Kaew and Wat Pho, keep it modest—cover your shoulders, knees, and ankles. Skip sleeveless tops, shorts, or anything tight or see-through. Some spots have cover-ups to borrow if you need them. If you’re a woman visiting temples, give monks some room - they avoid physical contact due to their vows. 2. Steer Clear of Strays Watch out for stray dogs, cats, and even monitor lizards lounging in Bangkok’s parks. Give them space and don’t tease them for fun. 3. Respect the Monarchy Thais deeply respect their royal family. Avoid saying anything negative about them—its a big deal here and could get you into legal trouble. 4. Head and Feet Etiquette In Thai culture, the head’s considered the highest part of the body, and feet the lowest. Don’t touch anyone’s head, and keep your feet from pointing at people or sacred things. 5. Dodge Scams and Overcharges Be wary of tuk-tuk drivers pitching super-cheap tours or random folks offering help out of the blue. Watch for tricks like “the site’s closed” claims, gem deals, or detours to shops. Stick with trusted tour operators and double-check details before buying. 6. Eat Smart on the Streets Street food’s usually fine—just go for busy stalls cooking fresh stuff on the spot. Skip anything raw or half-cooked, and stick to bottled water. If you’re unsure, peek at how clean and thorough they are with prep. 7. Know the Drone Rules Flying a drone? You’ll need permits from Thailand’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAAT) and the NBTC. In Bangkok, some spots—like near airports, palaces, temples, or government buildings—need extra okay from whoever owns the land. 8. Pack Your Own Tissues Public bathrooms here often don’t have toilet paper, so bring some dry or wet wipes along. 8. Follow Alcohol Guidelines Alcohol’s sold only during designated windows (typically 11 AM-2 PM and 5 PM-midnight) and not at all on big Buddhist holidays. You can’t drink in temples, government spots, or public clinics, and the legal age is 20. 9. Time Your Travel Smart Bangkok traffic can be a beast during rush hours—think morning and late afternoon. Plan around those times if you can to dodge the gridlock.  10. Thailand Uses the Buddhist Calendar Thailand counts years by the Buddhist calendar—543 years ahead of ours, from Buddha’s Nirvana. Translation apps might trip over dates, so double-check.  11. Check air quality Protect yourself from PM2.5  Bangkok’s air can get hazy with PM2.5 dust—check apps for real-time updates. Grab a mask to filter it out, or duck into museums when it spikes. Stay safe and enjoy the city’s indoor gems. 12. Emergency Contact Numbers: Keep emergency numbers handy: 191 (general), 1669 (medical), and 1155 (Tourist Police). The "Thailand Tourist Police" app also allows direct reporting.  13. Complete Thailand’s Digital Arrival Card Before Entry: Starting May 1, 2025, all foreign nationals entering Thailand by air, land, or sea must complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) electronically at least three days before arrival. The TDAC is required for all foreign passport holders, except those transiting without immigration clearance or entering with a Border Pass. Register at the Thailand Immigration Bureau’s official website.

Bangkok Useful Guide

Thai’s the main language here, but many locals speak English too.  Learning a few phrases can come in handy: Hello: Sawasdee (sah-wahs-dee)  Thank you: Khob khun (kob koon)  Yes: Chai (chai)  No: Mai (my)  Excuse me/Sorry: Khor toht (kor tote)

Frequently Asked Questions

You must carry a passport with an expiration date that meets the destination's requirements (usually valid for at least 6 months after the cruise ends; please refer to the actual boarding information), your cruise boarding pass (e-ticket or printed copy), and any visas required by all countries/regions on your itinerary. Depending on your nationality, other identification documents (such as a residence card or national ID card) may also be required. Please confirm the final requirements with the relevant embassies or consulates and the cruise line before departure.
Modern large cruise ships are equipped with advanced stabilizers and are routed to avoid rough seas, meaning most passengers never experience noticeable seasickness. If you are prone to motion sickness, consider booking a cabin on the mid-to-lower decks where movement is minimal. Other helpful tips include packing motion sickness medication, wearing anti-nausea wristbands, and getting fresh air on open decks. Note: Medication availability at the onboard medical center varies, so please check with your specific cruise line.
The vast majority of cruises automatically charge a fixed service fee to your daily cruise card account. For specific rates and collection methods, please refer to the information published by the cruise line after boarding. This fee typically covers basic gratuities for room service, dining staff, and more. Unless you wish to tip extra for exceptional service, additional cash tips are not required. We recommend consulting the cruise line's official guidelines when booking or after boarding.
Most international cruise lines use the US Dollar as their onboard currency. Upon boarding, you will link a credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, etc.) to your cruise card. The ship operates on a "cashless" system, meaning all onboard purchases (dining, drinks, shopping, service fees) are charged directly to your account and settled at the end of the trip. While you don't need large amounts of cash on board, we recommend bringing some small bills (USD or local currency) for minor expenses and tips at ports of call.
Usually, within an hour after leaving port, your phone will connect to a maritime roaming network, which carries extremely high call and data roaming charges (often exceeding US$ 5/minute). We strongly advise putting your phone in Airplane Mode and relying solely on the ship's Wi-Fi. Most ships offer paid Wi-Fi packages. Purchasing a voyage-long package is generally much more cost-effective than paying by the day. Some luxury cruise lines include basic Wi-Fi in your fare.
Every international cruise ship is equipped with a medical center staffed by at least one internationally certified doctor and nurse. They are fully capable of treating common illnesses (colds, gastroenteritis) and minor injuries. Please note: Onboard medical care is quite expensive, and the pharmacy has limited stock. We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance with cruise medical coverage and packing an ample supply of any prescription or over-the-counter medications you regularly use.
After boarding, you must attend a mandatory safety drill (usually required to be completed within 24 hours). During the drill, you will hear the ship's dedicated alarm signal. Please immediately put on your life jacket (located in your cabin closet) and follow the evacuation route map on the back of your door to your designated assembly station. Please keep in mind: Do not use the elevators, follow the crew's instructions, and stay calm. Even if you have been on multiple cruises, you must participate in the drill on every new voyage. Please refer to the ship's on-site broadcasts and guidance for the specific signal and assembly location.
On the night before disembarkation, please follow the instructions issued by the cruise line to attach baggage tags to your checked luggage (excluding clothing, documents and valuables you will need the next morning) and place it in the designated area outside your stateroom door. Keep your passport, room key card and a small amount of carry-on belongings with you. On the day of disembarkation, please vacate your stateroom before the specified time and disembark in batches as notified. Do not linger in the stateroom. Finally, check all drawers, wardrobes and the safe. For the specific schedule and baggage requirements, please refer to the "Disembarkation Guide" provided by the cruise line.

Onboard the Disney Cruise Line: A Magical Voyage at Sea

Onboard the Disney Cruise Line: A Magical Voyage at Sea

#cruiseholiday Sailing with Disney Cruise Line was a dream come true! From the moment we stepped onboard, the ship was bursting with magic—character meet-and-greets, themed dinners, and Broadway-style shows that wowed us every night. The staterooms were comfortable and thoughtfully designed, and the service was truly exceptional. I loved the adults-only areas for some quiet time, while the kids were completely entertained at the clubs. Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island, was paradise with crystal-clear water and fun activities for all ages. Whether you're a Disney fan or just love relaxing, this cruise is pure joy from start to finish. Can’t wait to go again!

Dear friends, I just discovered an exclusive itinerary and I have to be the first to tell you!

Dear friends, I just discovered an exclusive itinerary and I have to be the first to tell you!

The Ritz-Carlton’s ultra-luxury yacht "Luminara" will sail directly from Hong Kong to Tokyo in March 2026, for 13 days and 12 nights. This is not an ordinary cruise ship; it’s a moving palace carrying only a few hundred guests. Imagine this: we board at sunrise in Victoria Harbour, staying in suites with panoramic terraces, with a private butler who has already prepared champagne. Every day, you wake up by the infinity pool to see the sea, and the butler even remembers how you like your coffee. It will take us to hidden islands that ordinary travelers can’t reach, hosting champagne parties on beaches open only to guests. The ship’s Michelin-starred chef’s restaurant changes its menu daily depending on the port. The best part is the spa facing the sea—this is the true meaning of "where the sea meets the sky." I’m so excited. It’s like a flowing feast—quiet, private, and every moment carefully attended to. In the spring of 2026, let’s completely indulge our time between the sea and the sky.

#springtravel Jinhae NFRDI Environment Eco-Park "For a break from the crowds, head to the Eco-Park near Yeojwacheon. In 2026, it’s a quiet sanctuary of ponds, weeping willows, and cherry trees. The reflections of the pink blossoms in the still water are beautiful. It’s where the locals go to have a quiet picnic. It’s only a 5-minute walk from the main stream but feels like a different world. It’s my favorite 'hidden' spot in the city."

Super Galaxy Cruise.

Super Galaxy Cruise.

I came to Bangkok for a date with my partner this time and booked a free experience tour. 🌌Super Galaxy Cruise🛳️ The entire experience was both romantic and packed with activities—it was such a steal! We spent the evening strolling around ICONSIAM and enjoying the river breeze before boarding at around 8:00 PM. We were blown away as soon as we stepped on board. The Super Galaxy Cruise is incredibly spacious, and the galaxy-themed lighting design is stylish with a futuristic vibe—perfect for photos! We enjoyed the 360-degree night view of the Chao Phraya River while feeling the cool breeze. Along the way, we passed the glowing Wat Arun, the Grand Palace, and the Rama VIII Bridge. Those landmarks, illuminated against the night sky, were breathtakingly beautiful. Watching them with my partner was so romantic. The buffet dinner depends on personal taste, but the seafood was fresh. The grilled giant prawns and salmon sashimi were delicious, and there were unlimited drinks. A live band played great music, and there were wonderful traditional Thai dances and cabaret shows in between. The atmosphere throughout the two-and-a-half-hour cruise was fantastic—there was never a dull moment! With stunning views, delicious food, and a wonderful atmosphere, it was truly an unforgettable romantic night for two.

"Carnival Splendor: The Ship That’s Like a Disco Fever Dream (With Unlimited Chocolate Melting Cake)

"Carnival Splendor: The Ship That’s Like a Disco Fever Dream (With Unlimited Chocolate Melting Cake)

#cruiseholiday Hold onto your glitter, because Carnival Splendor isn’t just a cruise—it’s a floating ‘70s revival where the pink zebra-striped decor is wild, the dessert menu never ends, and the party lasts all night. I just got back, and my inner diva is still recovering. Here’s the scoop: First Impressions: Stepping into the Atrium felt like walking into a disco ball explosion—pink glass elevators, neon lights, and the smell of Pinnacle Steakhouse’s sizzling filets 🥩 mixing with Swirls’ soft-serve vanilla. The vibe? “Saturday Night Fever meets all-you-can-eat.” The “This Ship is SO Extra” Moment: The Cloud 9 Spa’s thalassotherapy pool—a giant saltwater hot tub where I melted like the chocolate cake I’d later inhale. But the real hidden gem? El Mojito Bar’s spicy watermelon mojito (ask for extra chili salt!). 🌶️🍹 Foodie Glory: Chocolate Melting Cake ruined me for all other desserts (I ate it six nights straight). But the *24-hour* Pizza Pirate’s prosciutto pie? A drunken masterpiece. 🍕 My “Disco Never Dies” Itinerary: ⏰ 9 AM: Seaday Brunch with maple bacon pancakes (because balance). ⏰ 12 PM: Twister Waterslide (screamed like I was on American Idol). ⏰ 4 PM: Serenity Deck nap (with a Miami Vice in hand). ⏰ 8 PM: Pink Zebra Lounge karaoke (Dancing Queen = mandatory). ⏰ 12 AM: Robusto Bar’s cigar lounge (felt dangerously fancy). Pro Tip: Book the steakhouse on embarkation day—it’s half-price! Also, Lido Deck’s midnight nachos are a sinful must. 🌮 Final Verdict: 20/10, left sugar-drunk, slightly hoarse, and already planning my next glitter-filled escape. Who’s ready to splurge on Splendor? 💃
