My 10-day, 9-night Caribbean cruise on the Queen Elizabeth has come to an end, but I still feel like it's not enough. The service and food were superb, the accommodations were excellent and comfortable, the activities were plentiful, and the scenery of the countries we visited each day was stunning. It was a fantastic experience, and I'm so happy! 🥳

An absolutely perfect travel experience, with a wide variety of food options including plenty of meat, vegetables, fruits, and beverages—all deliciously prepared to accommodate different dietary preferences. The staff were all very friendly, and the music and dance performances on board were outstanding.

NCL's cruise lines are quite good in terms of itinerary design and service. The staff were constantly busy cleaning and tidying up, the rooms were clean, and the entertainment options were plentiful. The dining selection was fairly diverse, and being able to eat Lanzhou noodles was a treat. The disembarkation, embarkation, and handling of emergencies were all well-organized. I would choose NCL again next time.

Istanbul Brief Guide

Istanbul straddles two continents, its pulse beating where Europe meets Asia along the Bosphorus. Once Constantinople, this city wore the crowns of three empires—Roman, Byzantine, Ottoman—leaving behind a tangle of domes, minarets, and markets that still hum with life. Wander Sultanahmet to feel it: the Blue Mosque’s tiles shimmer, Hagia Sophia whispers centuries, and Topkapi Palace guards old secrets. Then there’s the Grand Bazaar—a noisy, colorful maze where history trades hands. You’ll see why Istanbul’s story never sits still.

Istanbul Must-try local experiences

1. Historic Heart Explorations Unravel Istanbul’s ancient pulse in Sultanahmet—step into Hagia Sophia’s church-to-mosque legacy, admire the Blue Mosque’s shimmering tiles, or roam Topkapi Palace’s Ottoman treasures. Add a peek at the Hippodrome’s relics nearby; dawn keeps the crowds thin, letting history breathe.  2. Bazaar Bargain Hunts Lose yourself in the Grand Bazaar’s maze—over 4,000 stalls brim with spices, rugs, and lamps in a 15th-century swirl. Toss in the Spice Bazaar’s saffron stacks nearby; bring cash, flash a grin, and haggle—start at half the asking price for the thrill.  3. Waterfront Wanderings Cruise the Bosphorus—palaces line the banks, bridges soar—catch a public ferry from Eminönü for a dusk shimmer, or hop to Kadıköy on the Asian side for markets and fresh fish. Add Üsküdar’s quieter shores; grab a simit and tea at any pier to soak it in.  4. Hammam Heat Escapes Sink into a Turkish hammam—steam and scrubs on marble slabs refresh at Çemberlitaş Hamamı (1584) or Süleymaniye’s grand arches. Book ahead; this ritual washes the day clean—Istanbul’s old-school spa glows. 5. Sufi Dance Reveries Witness whirling dervishes spin—catch their trance at Hodjapasha’s lodge or the Galata Mevlevihanesi’s stone halls, set to haunting flutes. Check times early—weekends pack out fast in this quiet, hypnotic custom. 6. Turkish Table Feasts Savor Istanbul’s flavors—kebabs crackle over coals, meze like smoky eggplant tease the tongue, and baklava oozes honey, paired with thick coffee. Hit Çiya Sofrası in Kadıköy or Pandeli near the Spice Bazaar; these lokantas dish local soul, no frills.  7. Colorful Quarter Rambles Wander Balat’s steep streets—bright houses, murals, and cozy cafés spill from an old Jewish nook. Add Fener’s Greek echoes next door or sip tea at Velvet Café; mornings dodge the photo-snapping rush.  8. Tower Top Views Scale Galata Tower—medieval views span Istanbul’s minarets and ferries. Or hit Çamlıca Tower on the Asian side for a sleek take; late afternoon paints it gold. Both perch over the city’s endless dance. 9. Hilltop Tea Retreats Ride Eyüp’s cable car to Pierre Loti Hill—tea houses frame the Golden Horn’s curve. Then try Çamlıca Hill for Bosphorus views; both are Istanbul’s calm getaways. Sip tea, bring a book—linger in the quiet. 10. Street Snack Stops Nibble Ortaköy’s kumpir—loaded baked potatoes—under the Bosphorus Bridge’s glow, or grab a waffle from a nearby stall. Swing by Eminönü for balık ekmek (fish sandwiches) off the docks; Sundays buzz with vendors and bites.  11. Island Day Getaways Sail to the Princes’ Islands—car-free Marmara gems, an hour from Kabataş. Büyükada blends pines and old mansions, Heybeliada’s naval lanes call—rent a bike to roll through the hush. Istanbul’s peaceful side waits here.

Istanbul Transportation

Istanbul, a central transcontinental hub, is accessible by air, train, bus, or ferry, with efficient connections to its city center. By Air Istanbul Airport (IST), approximately 45 km northwest on the European side, is the primary international gateway.  To City Center from IST - Havaist Shuttle Bus: A shuttle bus service offers 11 different routes between the airport and the city center, including Taksim, Sultanahmet, or Kadıköy. Pay using cash, cards, or an Istanbulkart.    - M11 Metro: Direct to Gayrettepe station, with transfers to M2 for Taksim or Marmaray for Sultanahmet. Runs 6:00 AM-midnight.    - Public Bus: public buses (H1, 2, 3, 6, 8, and 9) connect the airport to various points in Istanbul. These buses are slightly cheaper. You'll need an Istanbulkart to pay.    - Taxis/Ride-Hailing: Official taxis are readily available at designated ranks outside the arrivals area. For tide-hailing (Uber), you will need to navigate to a designated pickup area. Taxis to main districts like Sultanahmet or Taksim typically cost between 1300 TL and 1800 TL, depending on traffic conditions.    Sabiha Gökçen Airport (SAW), about 50 km southeast on the Asian side, handles budget carriers like Pegasus.    To City Center from SAW: - Havabus Shuttle: To Taksim or Kadıköy. Istanbul Where to Stay

Istanbul’s neighborhoods each offer a different lens on the city—from ancient echoes to modern hum. Pick your base and dive in—here’s where to settle for the trip you want.

Istanbul Best Time to Visit

Coastal climate with Mediterranean influences: Winters are cool and wet, summers are warm and humid. Spring and autumn offer a balance of weather and crowds, while summer is ideal for water-based activities. Winter is perfect for budget travelers. Check for holiday schedules and Ramadan dates before booking your trip. Spring (March-May): Mild (10-20°C), blooming parks, and moderate crowds. Ideal for sightseeing and festivals like the Tulip Festival (April). Book 1-2 months ahead for peak April travel. Summer (June-August): Warm (25-30°C), perfect for ferries and discovering the Princes’ Islands. Peak crowds (especially July/August), higher prices, and occasional heatwaves (up to 35°C).  Autumn (September-November): Pleasant but cooling rapidly: 25°C in September - 10°C by November, fewer crowds, and cheaper hotel rates. Ideal for Grand Bazaar or Bosphorus walks.  Winter (December-February): Cool, wet (5-12°C), quiet, and budget-friendly. Snowfall possible. Attractions close earlier; indoor sites (Grand Bazaar, museums) are ideal.

Istanbul Travel Tips

1. Time Your Hagia Sophia Visit Hagia Sophia’s a mosque now, so five daily prayers (check times online) pause tourist entry—worshippers come first. Dress light but cover shoulders and knees; women, drape a scarf over your hair. Hit it early—morning beats the midday swarm. 2. Tackle Topkapi Palace Smart Topkapi’s sprawl means extra tickets for spots like the Harem—grab the full pass at the gate to skip juggling lines. Mornings let you breathe in its courtyards before the tour buses roll in; audio guides add juice to the history. 3. Ease Into Ramadan During Ramadan (dates shift yearly), locals fast dawn to dusk, and some eateries pause daytime service. Hold off eating or sipping in public till sunset—grab a snack indoors instead; it’s a quiet nod to the vibe. 4. Stay Sharp Around Crowds Pickpockets hit hard in the Grand Bazaar and tram stops—stash wallets in front pockets, zip bags across your chest. Dodge the “helpful stranger” stain scam or shoe shine hustle—both mask a lift; a firm “no” keeps you clear.  5. Ride Like a Local Trams—like T1 from Sultanahmet to Taksim—slice through traffic; grab an Istanbulkart at kiosks for cheap taps on trams, ferries, and buses. Skip cabs near tourist zones—meters spike oddly; opt for Uber or a quick walk instead.  6. Know the Drinking Rules Alcohol’s fine over 19, but public sipping outside licensed spots—like Taksim’s bars—can spark fines; keep it to restaurants or rooftops. Ramadan dries some zones—sip low-key or wait for dusk to join the buzz.  7. Sip Tea, Not Chug Tea’s Istanbul’s lifeblood—black, strong, in tulip glasses at every corner. Take it slow, drop in one or two sugars—gulping marks you new; linger at a spot like Çorlulu Ali Paşa to blend in.  8. Dress for Mosque Stops Mosques—like Süleymaniye or Fatih—welcome visitors outside prayer, but cover up: long pants or skirts, sleeves, and a headscarf for women (borrow one if needed). Slip off shoes at the door; it’s respect that opens the doors wider.  9. Haggle with Confidence Bazaars and markets—like Kapalıçarşı or Arasta—thrive on bartering; start at half the vendor’s price, smile, and nudge up slowly. Cash rules here—cards rarely cut it; you’ll snag better deals with a playful push.  10.  Plan Ferry Hops  Ferries crisscross the Bosphorus and beyond—Eminönü to Kadıköy or Kabataş to the islands—beating road snarls with views. Load an Istanbulkart for seamless rides; check timetables, as dusk runs pack out fast.

Istanbul Useful Guide

Turkish is the official language, using the Latin alphabet. English is widely spoken in tourist areas (Sultanahmet, Taksim), with signage, menus, and guides in English at major attractions. Proficiency drops in suburbs or local markets. Basic Turkish phrases like “Merhaba” (Hello) or “Teşekkürler” (Thank you) enhance interactions. Translation apps facilitate smooth navigation.

Frequently Asked Questions

You must carry a passport with an expiration date that meets the destination's requirements (usually valid for at least 6 months after the cruise ends; please refer to the actual boarding information), your cruise boarding pass (e-ticket or printed copy), and any visas required by all countries/regions on your itinerary. Depending on your nationality, other identification documents (such as a residence card or national ID card) may also be required. Please confirm the final requirements with the relevant embassies or consulates and the cruise line before departure.
Modern large cruise ships are equipped with advanced stabilizers and are routed to avoid rough seas, meaning most passengers never experience noticeable seasickness. If you are prone to motion sickness, consider booking a cabin on the mid-to-lower decks where movement is minimal. Other helpful tips include packing motion sickness medication, wearing anti-nausea wristbands, and getting fresh air on open decks. Note: Medication availability at the onboard medical center varies, so please check with your specific cruise line.
The vast majority of cruises automatically charge a fixed service fee to your daily cruise card account. For specific rates and collection methods, please refer to the information published by the cruise line after boarding. This fee typically covers basic gratuities for room service, dining staff, and more. Unless you wish to tip extra for exceptional service, additional cash tips are not required. We recommend consulting the cruise line's official guidelines when booking or after boarding.
Most international cruise lines use the US Dollar as their onboard currency. Upon boarding, you will link a credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, etc.) to your cruise card. The ship operates on a "cashless" system, meaning all onboard purchases (dining, drinks, shopping, service fees) are charged directly to your account and settled at the end of the trip. While you don't need large amounts of cash on board, we recommend bringing some small bills (USD or local currency) for minor expenses and tips at ports of call.
Usually, within an hour after leaving port, your phone will connect to a maritime roaming network, which carries extremely high call and data roaming charges (often exceeding US$ 5/minute). We strongly advise putting your phone in Airplane Mode and relying solely on the ship's Wi-Fi. Most ships offer paid Wi-Fi packages. Purchasing a voyage-long package is generally much more cost-effective than paying by the day. Some luxury cruise lines include basic Wi-Fi in your fare.
Every international cruise ship is equipped with a medical center staffed by at least one internationally certified doctor and nurse. They are fully capable of treating common illnesses (colds, gastroenteritis) and minor injuries. Please note: Onboard medical care is quite expensive, and the pharmacy has limited stock. We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance with cruise medical coverage and packing an ample supply of any prescription or over-the-counter medications you regularly use.
After boarding, you must attend a mandatory safety drill (usually required to be completed within 24 hours). During the drill, you will hear the ship's dedicated alarm signal. Please immediately put on your life jacket (located in your cabin closet) and follow the evacuation route map on the back of your door to your designated assembly station. Please keep in mind: Do not use the elevators, follow the crew's instructions, and stay calm. Even if you have been on multiple cruises, you must participate in the drill on every new voyage. Please refer to the ship's on-site broadcasts and guidance for the specific signal and assembly location.
On the night before disembarkation, please follow the instructions issued by the cruise line to attach baggage tags to your checked luggage (excluding clothing, documents and valuables you will need the next morning) and place it in the designated area outside your stateroom door. Keep your passport, room key card and a small amount of carry-on belongings with you. On the day of disembarkation, please vacate your stateroom before the specified time and disembark in batches as notified. Do not linger in the stateroom. Finally, check all drawers, wardrobes and the safe. For the specific schedule and baggage requirements, please refer to the "Disembarkation Guide" provided by the cruise line.

Onboard the Disney Cruise Line: A Magical Voyage at Sea

Onboard the Disney Cruise Line: A Magical Voyage at Sea

#cruiseholiday Sailing with Disney Cruise Line was a dream come true! From the moment we stepped onboard, the ship was bursting with magic—character meet-and-greets, themed dinners, and Broadway-style shows that wowed us every night. The staterooms were comfortable and thoughtfully designed, and the service was truly exceptional. I loved the adults-only areas for some quiet time, while the kids were completely entertained at the clubs. Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island, was paradise with crystal-clear water and fun activities for all ages. Whether you're a Disney fan or just love relaxing, this cruise is pure joy from start to finish. Can’t wait to go again!

Dear friends, I just discovered an exclusive itinerary and I have to be the first to tell you!

Dear friends, I just discovered an exclusive itinerary and I have to be the first to tell you!

The Ritz-Carlton’s ultra-luxury yacht "Luminara" will sail directly from Hong Kong to Tokyo in March 2026, for 13 days and 12 nights. This is not an ordinary cruise ship; it’s a moving palace carrying only a few hundred guests. Imagine this: we board at sunrise in Victoria Harbour, staying in suites with panoramic terraces, with a private butler who has already prepared champagne. Every day, you wake up by the infinity pool to see the sea, and the butler even remembers how you like your coffee. It will take us to hidden islands that ordinary travelers can’t reach, hosting champagne parties on beaches open only to guests. The ship’s Michelin-starred chef’s restaurant changes its menu daily depending on the port. The best part is the spa facing the sea—this is the true meaning of "where the sea meets the sky." I’m so excited. It’s like a flowing feast—quiet, private, and every moment carefully attended to. In the spring of 2026, let’s completely indulge our time between the sea and the sky.

Cruises are truly an ideal way to travel abroad with kids for the first time! Everyone can enjoy the joy of traveling on board. We started our journey with the Genting Dream cruise, which offers full one-stop service. Everything you need for food and fun is right there—you don’t need to plan anything in advance. 😎 Besides the water park, there are also free activities such as the Little Explorers kids’ club, mini golf, basketball courts, rock climbing, indoor and outdoor pools, jacuzzis, and more. Plus, you can enjoy a super🔥 Korean-style K-pop show and endless tropical fruit parties. The reflections of the pink blossoms in the still water are beautiful. It’s where the locals go to have a quiet picnic. It’s only a 5-minute walk from the main stream but feels like a different world. It’s my favorite 'hidden' spot in the city."

Super Galaxy Cruise.

Super Galaxy Cruise.

I came to Bangkok for a date with my partner this time and booked a free experience tour. 🌌Super Galaxy Cruise🛳️ The entire experience was both romantic and packed with activities—it was such a steal! We spent the evening strolling around ICONSIAM and enjoying the river breeze before boarding at around 8:00 PM. We were blown away as soon as we stepped on board. The Super Galaxy Cruise is incredibly spacious, and the galaxy-themed lighting design is stylish with a futuristic vibe—perfect for photos! We enjoyed the 360-degree night view of the Chao Phraya River while feeling the cool breeze. Along the way, we passed the glowing Wat Arun, the Grand Palace, and the Rama VIII Bridge. Those landmarks, illuminated against the night sky, were breathtakingly beautiful. Watching them with my partner was so romantic. The buffet dinner depends on personal taste, but the seafood was fresh. The grilled giant prawns and salmon sashimi were delicious, and there were unlimited drinks. A live band played great music, and there were wonderful traditional Thai dances and cabaret shows in between. The atmosphere throughout the two-and-a-half-hour cruise was fantastic—there was never a dull moment! With stunning views, delicious food, and a wonderful atmosphere, it was truly an unforgettable romantic night for two.

"Carnival Splendor: The Ship That’s Like a Disco Fever Dream (With Unlimited Chocolate Melting Cake)

"Carnival Splendor: The Ship That’s Like a Disco Fever Dream (With Unlimited Chocolate Melting Cake)

#cruiseholiday Hold onto your glitter, because Carnival Splendor isn’t just a cruise—it’s a floating ‘70s revival where the pink zebra-striped decor is wild, the dessert menu never ends, and the party lasts all night. I just got back, and my inner diva is still recovering. Here’s the scoop: First Impressions: Stepping into the Atrium felt like walking into a disco ball explosion—pink glass elevators, neon lights, and the smell of Pinnacle Steakhouse’s sizzling filets 🥩 mixing with Swirls’ soft-serve vanilla. The vibe? “Saturday Night Fever meets all-you-can-eat.” The “This Ship is SO Extra” Moment: The Cloud 9 Spa’s thalassotherapy pool—a giant saltwater hot tub where I melted like the chocolate cake I’d later inhale. But the real hidden gem? El Mojito Bar’s spicy watermelon mojito (ask for extra chili salt!). 🌶️🍹 Foodie Glory: Chocolate Melting Cake ruined me for all other desserts (I ate it six nights straight). But the *24-hour* Pizza Pirate’s prosciutto pie? A drunken masterpiece. 🍕 My “Disco Never Dies” Itinerary: ⏰ 9 AM: Seaday Brunch with maple bacon pancakes (because balance). ⏰ 12 PM: Twister Waterslide (screamed like I was on American Idol). ⏰ 4 PM: Serenity Deck nap (with a Miami Vice in hand). ⏰ 8 PM: Pink Zebra Lounge karaoke (Dancing Queen = mandatory). ⏰ 12 AM: Robusto Bar’s cigar lounge (felt dangerously fancy). Pro Tip: Book the steakhouse on embarkation day—it’s half-price! Also, Lido Deck’s midnight nachos are a sinful must. 🌮 Final Verdict: 20/10, left sugar-drunk, slightly hoarse, and already planning my next glitter-filled escape. Who’s ready to splurge on Splendor? 💃
