The cruise experience was excellent in every aspect, especially the spacious rooms, which surpassed most five-star hotels. The food quality was also superb, exceeding the standards of many restaurants. The most convenient aspect was that almost all meals and drinks were available on board; you could eat and drink wherever you wanted without additional charges, including tips (except for a few Michelin-starred restaurants). Areas for service improvement include promptly informing passengers of the ship's departure and arrival port information, especially if the original port information changes. During my recent cruise, I encountered a port change when boarding in Quebec City, and the berth was quite far away and not even visible. I couldn't get a response from the cruise line's WeChat customer service platform in China, and I eventually found out about the situation at the Quebec City Visitor Center.

Our 4-day, 3-night cruise trip has come to a successful end, and overall it was a great experience! The ship's facilities were excellent, with a KTV, cinema, gym, and heated swimming pool all readily available. The staff were warm and attentive, the cabins were clean and comfortable, and the windows offered magnificent river views. The buffet meals were a major highlight, with a wide variety of dishes to choose from, and we enjoyed every meal to the fullest.

One of the best all inclusive travel experience! We’ve visited four cities in Japan: Kagoshima, Kobe, Osaka and Kochi. Our only wish was to stay longer in each city so that we could explore more.

First, let's talk about the amazing dining. We've been on five cruises across four ships, and honestly, among the free meals, MSC's is the best. The main dining room is excellent, and the buffet usually features a main dish every day, including king crab, lobster, scallops, and abalone. Other meals are similar to most ships. We were very satisfied with our recent fare. Since we haven't had any paid dining options with Royal Caribbean, we won't comment on those. Accommodation is generally similar across Royal Caribbean, Princess Cruises, Idaho, and MSC. There isn't a significant difference. Service is better than some of the foreign staff; most are very friendly. Because we've had many experiences, we usually leave a tip for the cabin and main dining room staff before disembarking. Recreational facilities: Surprisingly, they're not much different from Royal Caribbean's, and quite good enough to enjoy. The facilities are quite new, but it was relatively crowded during our National Day cruise. Avoid peak times for activities and meals. Shore excursions were well-organized, efficient, and well-managed. The show was great; the female singer had a fantastic voice and left a deep impression, and the song and dance performances were excellent. If you have the time, try to see it. The only noticeable drawback was that people kept walking around after the show started; they should really do something about that.

Shanghai Local Travel Guide

Shanghai Brief Guide

Shanghai, often dubbed "the Paris of the East", charms with its iconic skyline of soaring towers and historic lanes alive with delicious local foods. Use our guide to explore everything this magnificent city offers, from iconic sights to local gems.

Shanghai Must-try local experiences

1. Riverside Skyline Strolls Stroll the Bund along the Huangpu River—grand, historic facades line the waterfront, staring down Pudong’s neon skyline that sparks up at dusk; dawn’s quieter for snapping shots. A river cruise from the Bund’s piers dazzles after sunset, slicing through the city’s glow—grab a cheap public boat for the full ride. It’s Shanghai’s timeless artery, alive with light and legacy. 2. Towering City Views Climb Shanghai Tower in Pudong—632 meters up, its deck shrinks the city below, with fast elevators to 128 floors. Nearby, the Oriental Pearl Tower adds its own iconic view, while the Shanghai World Financial Center—aka the Bottle Opener—brings a 492-meter perch with a trapezoidal cutout framing the sky. A discount pass often bundles these towers for a full skyline sweep; aim for clear evenings—haze can blur the magic. 3. Old Town Wandering Step into Ming-era calm with Yu Garden’s pavilions and ponds, then spill into Yuyuan Bazaar’s snack-and-trinket labyrinth. It’s a 16th-century retreat turned bustling hub—mid-morning keeps it sane before it gets more crowded around lunchtime. 4. Dive into Museums & Galleries Shanghai Museum unpacks China’s past—bronzes, calligraphy, and jade glow under soft lights on People’s Square. Over at M50, an old mill turned art district along Suzhou Creek, galleries and studios pulse with edgy works—think M50’s ShanghART for a contemporary jolt. 5. Theme Park Escapades Dive into Shanghai’s thrill scene—Shanghai Disney Resort spins magic across seven lands, from Enchanted Storybook Castle to Zootopia’s recent debut; Tron zips fast, shows hook all ages, best on weekdays to skip the crush. Happy Valley Shanghai, an hour out in Songjiang, throws four big coasters—think Diving Coaster’s 65-meter drop—and a splashy water zone; summer weekends pack it, so hit early. 6. Taste Shanghai Cuisine Chase the Shanghainese delicious classics—xiaolongbao burst with broth, hongshao rou simmers rich and red, shengjian mantou fry up crisp and meaty. These dishes carry old home recipes, blending sweet soy with slow cooks. Street stalls sling shengjian sizzling hot, while hongshao rou hides in local restaurants—hunt them where lines spill out. 7. Jazz Night Vibes Shanghai’s jazz scene hums with variety—live horns fill spots from sleek Blue Note, opened in 2019 with global acts, to cozy dives like Heyday. The Fairmont Peace Hotel’s Jazz Bar, rocking since the 1930s, pairs classic tunes with an old-world vibe—think veteran players and vintage cocktails. Catch Blue Note on North Sichuan Road for a big-stage night, or hit Peace Hotel post-9 PM for that timeless kick. 8. Urban Outdoor Retreats Picnic or stroll at West Bund’s riverside—locals and expats dance, yoga, or chill with pets; late afternoon turns it social with sunset hues. An hour out, Zhujiajiao’s centuries-old canals and stone bridges offer Jiangnan calm—boats glide past teahouses; mornings keep it peaceful. Shanghai’s green and watery escapes collide here. 9. Shopping Sprees Hit West Nanjing Road—flagship stores and neon blaze since the 1920s; dusk lights up a snack-charged spree. Middle Huaihai Road flaunts high-end boutiques and glossy malls like IAPM—think luxe, not local. For artsy loot, weave through Tianzifang’s tight lanes—weekends get busy. Shanghai’s shopping game is cashless—WeChat or Alipay accepted everywhere.  10. Explore Modern Hangouts Xintiandi blends shikumen charm with sleek bars and bistros—coffee by day, cocktails by night. Columbia Circle buzzes with artisanal cafes and poolside eats, while Shang Kang Li mixes trendy restaurants with Riink’s neon roller disco; INS in Fuxing Park stacks six floors of bars and clubs. Start mid-morning for brunch—pace builds through the day. 11. Park Morning Rituals Watch park mornings—tai chi flows, retirees belt old songs, mahjong tiles clack under trees at spots like Zhongshan, Luxun, or Fuxing; catch it around 7 AM for the full spirit. Zhongshan in Changning hums with line dancing, Luxun in Hongkou nods to literary roots, Fuxing in Huangpu blends French flair—each a slice of daily Shanghai. It’s the city waking up, unscripted and alive. 12. Greenhouse Wonders The Expo Culture Park Greenhouse turns an old steel factory into a lush, cloud-shaped wonder—plants spill from desert cacti to rainforest ferns across sprawling pavilions. Opened in 2021, it’s a green escape where walkways lift you over waterfalls and fish-filled pools. Aim for a weekday visit—weekends draw crowds; spring catches blooms at their peak.

Shanghai Must-see Attractions

Shanghai’s a city that dances between old and new—its landmarks tell the tale. From Disney’s sparkle to Yu Garden’s calm, here’s what pulls you in.

Shanghai Food Guide

Shanghai’s food scene buzzes with Hu cuisine classics—street stalls and home kitchens dish out flavors that define the city.

Shanghai Transportation

Shanghai's transportation infrastructure is robust, with its airports and railway stations being the primary hubs for intercity travel. By air   Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG): This is Shanghai's primary international airport, located approximately 40 km (25 miles) east of the city center, serving as the arrival point for most overseas tourists. To the city center: - Maglev + Metro: For the fastest journey, take the high-speed Maglev train from the airport to Longyang Road Metro Station (8 minutes). From there, transfer to Metro Line 2 to reach People's Square and other downtown areas. - Metro: Metro Line 2 runs directly from the airport to downtown stations like People's Square, but the journey is longer. - Taxi/Ride-hailing: Available 24/7. Fares to the city center are typically between ¥160 and ¥220 during the day. Ride-hailing apps like DiDi are also widely available and often slightly cheaper. - Bus: Several airport bus routes serve different parts of the city. While budget-friendly, the journey is longer and susceptible to traffic congestion. Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (SHA): This airport primarily serves domestic flights and short-haul international flights to destinations such as Tokyo and Seoul. It is located much closer to the city center, approximately 13 km (8 miles) to the west. To the city center: - Metro: The most efficient option. Metro Lines 2 and 10 connect the airport to central Shanghai. A metro ride to People's Square takes about 25–40 minutes. - Taxi/Ride-hailing: A taxi is a quick and convenient option, with a journey taking 25–40 minutes depending on traffic. By Train: High-speed trains are a popular way to travel to Shanghai from other Chinese cities, offering efficiency and scenic views. Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station: This is the primary station for most high-speed (G-series) and bullet (D-series) trains.  Adjacent to Hongqiao Airport (SHA), roughly 15 km (9 miles) from the city center.  Shanghai Railway Station: Located in the downtown area, this station serves both regular-speed (T, K, and Z series) and some high-speed trains.

Shanghai Where to Stay

Shanghai’s neighborhoods pulse with distinct beats—pick your spot for the vibe you’re chasing. From The Bund’s nightlife kick to Lujiazui’s skyline perch, here’s where to crash with the how-to baked in.

Shanghai Best Time to Visit

Shanghai’s humid subtropical climate features distinct seasons, with temperatures ranging from 3 °C to 34 °C (37–93 °F) and humidity levels of 70–85%. March–May and September–November offer mild weather, fewer crowds, and better deals.  Note: Avoid holiday spikes for fewer crowds. Labor Day (May 1–7). National Day (Oct 1–7). Spring: Cool-to-warm temperatures (3°C–24°C / 37°F–75°F) and high rainfall. Cherry blossoms bloom in March and early April. Crowds are mild, and hotel rates are reasonable (except for Labor Day week). Fall: Pleasant early fall (18°C–26°C / 64°F–79°F) cools to 9°C–15°C (48°F–59°F) by November. Typhoon risk in September. Hairy crab season delights foodies from October to November. Crowds are moderate (except for National Day week). Summer: Hot and humid, with temperatures of 26°C–38°C (79°F–100°F) with 90%+ humidity and frequent downpours. Crowds peak at theme parks, and hotel prices rise. Winter: Chilly and damp -2°C–10°C  (28°F–50°F), with occasional light rain/smog. Few tourists except during the Chinese New Year (Jan/Feb), when prices double.

Shanghai Travel Tips

1. Book Big Draws Early Shanghai Tower, Pearl Tower, and Disney tickets vanish fast—book online at least a week ahead, longer during holidays like Golden Week (early October). Sunset slots at Shanghai Tower fill quickest; secure them early for a smoother trip. 2. Grab a Metro Card Shanghai’s metro hums on a Jiaotong Card—buy one at stations (20 RMB/$2.80 deposit, load at the machines). It works across the sprawling network—Pudong to Puxi—plus buses and ferries. Skip ticket queues; mornings get hectic. 3. Use Local App Alternatives Uber and Google Maps don’t work here—DiDi’s your ride-hail pick, WeChat and AliPay handle chats and payments. Baidu or Amap sub in for maps. DiDi’s got English options for easy cab booking; download them pre-trip—they’re slick and essential. 4. Pre-download Alipay Alipay rules payments—street stalls to malls take it—so download and link a bank card (Visa/Mastercard’s fine) before arriving. Shanghai’s nearly cashless; setting this up ahead keeps you hassle-free. 5. Dodge the “Tea Scam” Friendly strangers near the Bund or Nanjing Road pushing “tea tastings” can sting with steep bills. A firm “bu yao” (no thanks) and a quick exit work—stick to legit teahouses like those around Yu Garden. 6. Bargain at Markets Yuyuan Bazaar or Tianzifang vendors expect a bit of a haggle, a fun little back-and-forth—start at half the asking price, settle around 30% off. It’s a game—smile, don’t push too hard; they’ll nudge if you’re close.  7. Skip Peak Metro Hours Shanghai’s metro packs tight—7-9 AM and 5-7 PM turn many popular lines like Line 2 and 10 into a sardine cans. Time rides for mid-morning or late evening—less shove, more space. Avoid People’s Square station at rush; it’s a choke point. 8. Time the Crowds Right Weekends and holidays (like May Labor Day or October National Holiday week) jam the Bund, Disney, Nanjing Road—go midweek or early (8-9 AM) to breathe. Disney’s quieter Tuesday; Yu Garden thins pre-10 AM. Locals flood parks Sundays—plan around it. 9. Skip the Tip Tipping’s not a thing in Shanghai—servers don’t expect it, and some wave it off as odd. High-end spots might tack a 10% service fee—check the bill. Save your money; it’s all in the price. 10. Carry a Power Bank Apps like DiDi, Alipay, and maps drain phones fast—Shanghai’s on-the-go lifestyle doesn’t slow for a dead battery. Bring your own charger, since outlets are scarce outside hotels. Or try rental stations—scan a code at spots like malls or metro hubs, pay a small fee via Alipay, and grab a power bank; return it to any station of the same brand citywide. Either way, stay juiced up for the ride.

Shanghai Useful Guide

Mandarin Chinese is the official language; Shanghainese is a local dialect spoken by locals.  English Usage: Widely spoken by younger locals, hotel staff, and in tourist areas. Signage at attractions often includes English. Stops on the metro are announced in both Chinese and English, with English signs. No Englsih signs on busses.

Frequently Asked Questions

You must carry a passport with an expiration date that meets the destination's requirements (usually valid for at least 6 months after the cruise ends; please refer to the actual boarding information), your cruise boarding pass (e-ticket or printed copy), and any visas required by all countries/regions on your itinerary. Depending on your nationality, other identification documents (such as a residence card or national ID card) may also be required. Please confirm the final requirements with the relevant embassies or consulates and the cruise line before departure.
Modern large cruise ships are equipped with advanced stabilizers and are routed to avoid rough seas, meaning most passengers never experience noticeable seasickness. If you are prone to motion sickness, consider booking a cabin on the mid-to-lower decks where movement is minimal. Other helpful tips include packing motion sickness medication, wearing anti-nausea wristbands, and getting fresh air on open decks. Note: Medication availability at the onboard medical center varies, so please check with your specific cruise line.
The vast majority of cruises automatically charge a fixed service fee to your daily cruise card account. For specific rates and collection methods, please refer to the information published by the cruise line after boarding. This fee typically covers basic gratuities for room service, dining staff, and more. Unless you wish to tip extra for exceptional service, additional cash tips are not required. We recommend consulting the cruise line's official guidelines when booking or after boarding.
Most international cruise lines use the US Dollar as their onboard currency. Upon boarding, you will link a credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, etc.) to your cruise card. The ship operates on a "cashless" system, meaning all onboard purchases (dining, drinks, shopping, service fees) are charged directly to your account and settled at the end of the trip. While you don't need large amounts of cash on board, we recommend bringing some small bills (USD or local currency) for minor expenses and tips at ports of call.
Usually, within an hour after leaving port, your phone will connect to a maritime roaming network, which carries extremely high call and data roaming charges (often exceeding US$ 5/minute). We strongly advise putting your phone in Airplane Mode and relying solely on the ship's Wi-Fi. Most ships offer paid Wi-Fi packages. Purchasing a voyage-long package is generally much more cost-effective than paying by the day. Some luxury cruise lines include basic Wi-Fi in your fare.
Every international cruise ship is equipped with a medical center staffed by at least one internationally certified doctor and nurse. They are fully capable of treating common illnesses (colds, gastroenteritis) and minor injuries. Please note: Onboard medical care is quite expensive, and the pharmacy has limited stock. We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance with cruise medical coverage and packing an ample supply of any prescription or over-the-counter medications you regularly use.
After boarding, you must attend a mandatory safety drill (usually required to be completed within 24 hours). During the drill, you will hear the ship's dedicated alarm signal. Please immediately put on your life jacket (located in your cabin closet) and follow the evacuation route map on the back of your door to your designated assembly station. Please keep in mind: Do not use the elevators, follow the crew's instructions, and stay calm. Even if you have been on multiple cruises, you must participate in the drill on every new voyage. Please refer to the ship's on-site broadcasts and guidance for the specific signal and assembly location.
On the night before disembarkation, please follow the instructions issued by the cruise line to attach baggage tags to your checked luggage (excluding clothing, documents and valuables you will need the next morning) and place it in the designated area outside your stateroom door. Keep your passport, room key card and a small amount of carry-on belongings with you. On the day of disembarkation, please vacate your stateroom before the specified time and disembark in batches as notified. Do not linger in the stateroom. Finally, check all drawers, wardrobes and the safe. For the specific schedule and baggage requirements, please refer to the "Disembarkation Guide" provided by the cruise line.

"Carnival Splendor: The Ship That’s Like a Disco Fever Dream (With Unlimited Chocolate Melting Cake)

"Carnival Splendor: The Ship That’s Like a Disco Fever Dream (With Unlimited Chocolate Melting Cake)

#cruiseholiday Hold onto your glitter, because Carnival Splendor isn’t just a cruise—it’s a floating ‘70s revival where the pink zebra-striped decor is wild, the dessert menu never ends, and the party lasts all night. I just got back, and my inner diva is still recovering. Here’s the scoop: First Impressions: Stepping into the Atrium felt like walking into a disco ball explosion—pink glass elevators, neon lights, and the smell of Pinnacle Steakhouse’s sizzling filets 🥩 mixing with Swirls’ soft-serve vanilla. The vibe? “Saturday Night Fever meets all-you-can-eat.” The “This Ship is SO Extra” Moment: The Cloud 9 Spa’s thalassotherapy pool—a giant saltwater hot tub where I melted like the chocolate cake I’d later inhale. But the real hidden gem? El Mojito Bar’s spicy watermelon mojito (ask for extra chili salt!). 🌶️🍹 Foodie Glory: Chocolate Melting Cake ruined me for all other desserts (I ate it six nights straight). But the *24-hour* Pizza Pirate’s prosciutto pie? A drunken masterpiece. 🍕 My “Disco Never Dies” Itinerary: ⏰ 9 AM: Seaday Brunch with maple bacon pancakes (because balance). ⏰ 12 PM: Twister Waterslide (screamed like I was on American Idol). ⏰ 4 PM: Serenity Deck nap (with a Miami Vice in hand). ⏰ 8 PM: Pink Zebra Lounge karaoke (Dancing Queen = mandatory). ⏰ 12 AM: Robusto Bar’s cigar lounge (felt dangerously fancy). Pro Tip: Book the steakhouse on embarkation day—it’s half-price! Also, Lido Deck’s midnight nachos are a sinful must. 🌮 Final Verdict: 20/10, left sugar-drunk, slightly hoarse, and already planning my next glitter-filled escape. Who’s ready to splurge on Splendor? 💃

🇭🇰Pilot Star・The vitality of the sea

🇭🇰Pilot Star・The vitality of the sea

I sincerely want to share with you that taking a cruise is really a must-try experience because it is too good to shoot and too much fun! I've been on two cruises, and every time I post or feed, my friends go crazy and ask, "Is the cruise awesome? Is it fun?" And I always have one answer – cool! 🎉 Every morning when you open the curtains, you will see an endless sea🌊, the sky and the sea are connected by a line. That healing feeling can never be found in the city. You will feel completely relieved of the pressure. My mood immediately relaxed, as if even breathing was much fresher. In addition to the scenery, life on a cruise is exciting: 🍽️ Food, basically from morning to night, the restaurant has a lot of choice, Western food, Chinese food, buffet, as well as desserts and cocktails, can completely satisfy your taste buds. 🎶 For entertainment, there will be performances, concerts, dance shows, and even a casino at night. 🏊 For leisure, you can take a dip in the pool, sunbathe on the deck, or relax at the spa. Most importantly, whether you like to take pictures or enjoy a leisurely vacation, a cruise is sure to satisfy you. Many photos I took at random, straight out without filter, has been beautiful to be 📷 Even just for these few photos, the cruise is worth the trip! What’s more, you can still see the sea and eat while feeling the vitality and romance of the sea. This is an experience that no other mode of travel can match at all. ✨ So, if you want a truly relaxing and fulfilling journey, Look no further – cruises are a must-try! #CruiseFirstExperience #CruiseTravel #CruiseVacation #HongKongCruise #RitzCruise #RitzCruiseLeadingStar #Kai Tak Cruise Terminal #Seaview #LifePhotos
