The Scharnaval Carnival, also known as the Scharnaval Festival, is a biennial carnival held in the Scharnaval district of Brussels, Belgium. Its origins date back to the late 19th century, when it developed alongside community markets and charity parades. The festival includes floats, folk performances, and participants in elaborate costumes, as well as the election of a carnival prince or princess. This is the oldest surviving carnival in Brussels. This year, Scharnaval will celebrate its 92nd edition! Its first parade dates back to the late 19th century. The parade starts at Van Vollenhoven, Ambassador Avenue, in Josaphat Park, and passes through the Helmet district. Main route streets: Boulevard Louis Bertrand, Boulevard Suffrage Universel, Boulevard Ernest Renan, Boulevard Voltaire, Rue Helmet, Rue Richard Vandevelde, Place Helmet, Rue Agriculture, Rue Gustave Huberti, Rue Fernand Séverin, Place Riga. End point and stage: Place Riga, in front of the Sagrada Familia. After reaching the end point: Display of participating groups, and a Helmet Market!
