Is your New Year resolution to have more ‘me time’ doing creative things you love? Do you always intend to enter the St Barbe Open exhibition but always run out of time? Now’s your chance! You have four weeks to create – online entries open on 2 February. The exhibition is open to any artist, amateur or professional, who can submit up to two paintings, prints, drawings, sculptures, ceramics or textile works. There is no theme and the judges only selection criterion is quality. Entry for one artwork is £10 and two is £18. Prizes sponsored by Kate Welsh, Coastal Gallery and Beaulieu Fine Arts are awarded for the best print, abstract and work by a non-professional artist, while Chalk’s Gallery, Lymington gives all exhibition visitors a chance to vote for the People’s Choice prize. For the last five years the museum has also run a Young Artist’s Open which welcomes entrants from a one to eighteen years old to exhibit alongside the adult entries, encouraging our young people to get creative from their earliest years. Submissions can be up to A3 either mounted on card, framed or a box canvas. Same handing in and collections dates as adults but free entry. Long-time St Barbe supporter Gordon Young generously offers four ‘Ted Marsh Awards’ in cash and artists materials in memory of the museum’s founding chairman, including a 18-21 prize of £75!
