Here's What Awaits You: -Hands-On Guidance: With only 4 seats available per class, enjoy personalized attention as Thomas guides you through each step of the sculpting process. -Stunning Studio Setting: Set in the picturesque Southern Highlands, experience the perfect backdrop for artistic inspiration as you unleash your creativity in Thomas's working studio setting. -Expert Instruction: Learn from a seasoned practitioner as Thomas shares his wealth of knowledge and experience, from conceptualization to constructing base forms, working with wax and creating textures, ensuring you leave with newfound skills and insights. The Workshop will cover: -Learning the basic process of lost wax sculpture -The importance of structural integrity when creating sculpture -Working directly with wax to be able to produce a one-off bronze casting without the need for a mould. -Principals of using moulds to achieve editions/multiple castings -The original wax sculptures produced in the workshop will be sent to Sydney to be cast in bronze. Firm quotations will be provided for approval prior to any casting, and casting costs will be invoiced to and paid directly by each artist. The Archibald Prize 2024 is an Art Gallery of New South Wales touring exhibition, and it is coming to Ngununggula. The annual Archibald Prize is eagerly anticipated by artists and audiences alike. Judged by the trustees of the Art Gallery of NSW, it is Australia’s most celebrated and democratic – sometimes controversial – art award. Since 1921, it has highlighted figures from all walks of life, from famous faces to local heroes, reflecting the stories of our times. This year’s winner was Laura Jones for her captivating portrait of author and activist Tim Winton. Find out more about the Archibald Prize 2024 finalists here. This summer in the Southern Highlands, you have a unique opportunity to see two nationally acclaimed exhibitions in one beautiful location. The Archibald Prize 2024 at Ngununggula coincides with the Salon des Refusés at Retford Park. A much-anticipated feature of the art scene, showcasing an incredible ‘alternative’ selection of works not chosen for display in the official Archibald Prize exhibition. Ngununggula and Retford Park are offering an ART PASS ticket to see both exhibitions. Why not make a day of it and add a delicious meal at Hearth by Moonacres to the itinerary? Their farm-to-table menu is available for breakfast and lunch daily. The Archibald Prize 2024 at Ngununggula and the Salon des Refusés at Retford Park will open on Saturday, 30 November 2024, and continue until Monday, 27 January 2025. ---- TICKET INFORMATIONThe following session times are available for ticket purchases. Join us for a special opening event to celebrate the Southern Highlands premiere of the Archibald Prize 2024 and Ngununggula’s final exhibition of the year. The Archibald Prize is eagerly anticipated by artists and audiences alike, and to mark this momentous occasion for our region, our opening event will be brimming with entertainment and activities for the entire family. Book your tickets and be among the first to view this iconic exhibition in the Southern Highlands! Hear from guest speakers Wayne Tunnicliffe Head Curator, Australian Art at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, and Mayor Jesse Fitzpatrick of Wingecarribee Shire Council who will officially open the exhibition. Enjoy live musicperformances by Monica Trapaga and DJ Leo Tanoi, delicious food offerings from Hearth by Moonacres, Hot Canary and Will's Kitchen, plus summer cocktails by SoHi Spirits. For families, children can enjoy art-making workshops and have their faces painted or portraits drawn by a caricaturist. Did we mention there will be a jumping castle? We will also reveal our latest addition to the Ngununggula grounds: The Composer, by Caroline Rothwell.
