Explore the realm of speculative fiction at the upcoming event, "New Beginnings Explored through Speculative Fiction," hosted at the Silverstone Building in Falmer. Organized by Annie Goliath, a distinguished Creative and Critical Practice PhD student, this event seeks to delve into the concept of envisioning diverse new beginnings through the lens of speculative fiction. The symposium will feature a panel session with esteemed speakers such as Professor Joanna Callaghan, Kam Meakin, Riziki Millanzi, and Annie Goliath, each presenting their unique insights on creating new worldviews based on inclusivity, activism, and resilience. Professor Callaghan will showcase her film "My Fantastic Voyage," while Kam Meakin and Riziki Millanzi will delve into their respective research projects centered on feminist activism and Black women in speculative fiction. Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a workshop led by Annie Goliath, Sophie Page Hall, and Black Astronaut, where they will collaborate to envision speculative utopias through creative writing, mask-making, and movement exercises.
