NYC Voices: A Poetry & Spoken Word Experience + Limited Open Mic is a highly popular event presented by InspiredWordNYC. This phenomenal and wonderfully diverse event celebrates literary artists from all five boroughs of New York City. Taking place at the Parkside Lounge in the East Village, this event promises an unforgettable experience that showcases dynamic poets, writers, spoken word artists, and performance artists representing NYC boroughs. The age limit for this event is strictly 21+, so make sure to bring a valid physical ID. The ticket price is $15, which includes a $10 cover charge and a $5 non-alcoholic drink minimum until one day before the show or at 75 tickets sold. Last-minute tickets and door tickets will be available for $20. Please note that this event only allows limited open mic performances of poetry or spoken word. The 2023 I68 "Hounds & Hollow Points" Pistol Competition is an annual event that aims to support the mission of Victory Service Dogs (VSD) in assisting veterans and first responders to lead lives of independence, purpose, and dignity through the companionship of service dogs. Spearheaded by I68 Consulting Group, this event aims to raise $20,000 for VSD, which will fund a year of training for two teams - one from their Veteran's Program and one from their Children's Program. The "Hounds & Hollow Points" competition will consist of six stages that will test participants' shooting and pistol handling skills. To compete, participants must bring at least 200 rounds of ammunition (9mm - .45 cal) and use an Outside the Waist Holster. It is important to note that all competition participants must be 18 years old and above and will be required to sign a liability waiver. This event has limited slots, with a maximum of 40 competitors. Competitors must arrive by 9:00am to check in their firearms, and the first stage will begin at 10:00am. There will be separate Men's and Women's Brackets, and top prizes will be awarded to the winners. The Great Doughnut Race, taking place in Oregon City, is an exciting event that doughnut enthusiasts won't want to miss. This unique race offers participants four different race types to choose from. The standard 5K and 10K races allow participants to take home a box of delicious doughnuts. For those looking for an extra challenge, there is also a 5K and 10K race where participants not only run but also race to devour their doughnuts as fast as possible. With divisions available for ages 7 and up, the whole family can join in on the fun! Registration for The Great Doughnut Race is divided into three periods: Early Registration from 5/31 to 6/30 (use code 'earlyregistration' for a discount), Registration from 7/1 to 10/1, and Late Registration from 10/2 to 10/19.
