Road Riding Basics teaches you the skills you need to ride safely and confidently on streets and in heavily trafficked areas. The first half of the class will cover important bike handling skills and hazard avoidance maneuvers necessary while riding in traffic. Participants learn skills such as the avoidance weave, quick stop, rock dodge and instant turn, and discuss considerations for sharing space with other road users. Join us for a day of quiet reflection and spiritual renewal, led by Swami Satyamayananda of the Vedanta Society of Western Washington. Through guided meditation, instruction, and introspective silence, participants explore the universal truths taught in Vedanta — the oneness of all existence and the divinity within each being. This retreat offers an opportunity to step away from the pace of daily life and turn inward, nurturing calmness, clarity, and spiritual strength. No previous experience with meditation or Vedanta is required. All are welcome, regardless of background or faith tradition. You’ll leave refreshed, grounded, and inspired to carry the stillness of the retreat into everyday living. During the event, you can expect several rounds of guided meditation, instruction, Q&A, a brief tea/coffee break, and a flower offering. We conclude with a vegetarian potluck. This class is for recent Learn to Ride graduates or anyone who would like to practice basic bike handling skills. Basic Skills Clinics are the next step for adult participants (18+) who have recently taken a Learn to Ride class or who know how to ride a bike, but have not been on one in some time. Basic Skills Clinics focus on skills such as turning, shifting, braking gradually, and weaving and will help you develop the fundamental bike handling skills necessary to ride confidently! Our experienced Instructors will observe where you are at and will provide tailored instruction to help you progress to the next level. Participants move at their own pace and are encouraged to continue practicing these skills at home. Have any questions? Email us at education@waba.org . Knife Making This class will take you through the process of making your own pocket knife. You’ll learn how to make wooden scales and apply them to a knife hardware kit. We’ll also cover sawing, sanding, and finishing techniques. By the time the class has completed, you’ll have your very own pocket knife to take home!
