Ready to get hands-on and create your own glass masterpiece? Join us for an introduction to glass blowing that will spark your creativity! Wednesday Instruction: May 13 - June 17 Friday Student Open Blow (optional): May 15 - June 19 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Class Duration: 6 sessions, 18 instruction hours total, 18 hours of Student Open Blow Location: Glass Studio Pet Policy: Visitors are NOT permitted to bring pets onto the WheatonArts campus. Only Service Dogs, as defined by the ADA, are welcome on the grounds.  Ages: 16 and above Class Limit: 4 to 8 Class Fee: $410 Instructor: Glass Studio Artists Prerequisite: None Registration Closing: May 6  We all have to start somewhere! This course introduces students to beginning glass-blowing techniques and proper studio safety practices. Students will learn how to gather glass, the proper usage of glassblowing tools, how to create basic shapes and glass-blown forms, and how to work in a team setting. Class time will be divided between demonstrations and supervised work time. This course is designed for students with no experience or minimal knowledge of glassblowing skills. No previous classes are required for this course.   *Registration includes access to Student Open Blow on Friday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. during the run time of the class. Join the Birth of A Fallen Legacy 2nd Annual Gallery Walk Fundraiser, a momentous event that celebrates the life and legacy of Jay Anderson Jr. through the power of art. This inspiring event takes place in Milwaukee, a city that has faced significant challenges for black men and their families. In 2016, the unjust killing of Sylville Smith by a Milwaukee Officer ignited an uprising, known as the Milwaukee Riots or Sherman Park Riots. The media portrayal of the city and those involved painted a picture of criminals and heroes in a dangerous place. The city continues to heal, facing subsequent years of turmoil and loss due to cases of police violence. Sadly, even cases involving officers have often lacked proper accountability, leaving families and community members searching for closure. The Birth of a Fallen Legacy project emerged as a way to heal and bring together the community. By highlighting the stories and legacies of those who have fallen victim to police violence through art, we aim to challenge and reshape the media narrative. This event showcases the work of over 15 talented artists from the city, offering a unique opportunity to experience the lives of the slain alongside their families, community members, and organizations. Through art, we find a voice to tell our stories and seek healing, even when facing our offenders is not possible.
