Teresa Ruiz, and numerous other dignitaries today to unveil a new monument honoring Harriet Tubman and pay homage to the city’s role in the Underground Railroad along with the Black liberation movement’s rich history in the area. The ceremony also observed Harriet Tubman Day, which is tomorrow. The monument stands in Harriet Tubman Square, at the intersection of Washington and Broad Streets, in downtown Newark.

Join the perfect place for first-time competitors and judges to get involved with the (Judges) United States Latte Art Preliminary Newark New Jersey 2023. Judging at the preliminary competition opens up opportunities for judges to advance to qualifiers and national levels. To be certified for the competition, judges are required to participate in a one-day Judges Certification Workshop, hosted by the USLAC Presiding Head Judge. Additionally, an Online Learning Session, approximately 3-6 weeks prior to the competition, is also mandatory. For Visual Judges, we are calling all latte art lovers! You don't have to be a professional barista to sign up for visual judging. If you possess good eyesight and can discern contrast in colors, write legibly, are willing to calibrate with the Head Judge and other judges, and love latte art, then you are welcome to judge at USLAC! Technical Judges, on the other hand, should have professional barista experience, be fluent with Espresso Machines and Grinders, ability to visually assess bar flow and organization of the espresso station, write legibly, and be willing to calibrate with the Head Judge and other judges.
