Feminine Voices Providence | Blessed Sacrament Church
Nov 17–Nov 19, 2024 (UTC-5)
Providence
Join Ensemble Altera, a chamber choir of seamless ensemble perfection (Boston Musical Intelligencer), described by the BBC as something extraordinary , for an afternoon of Feminine Voices in Providence. Feminine Voices is a groundbreaking concert almost three years in the making, featuring the upper voices of Ensemble Altera and the exquisite artistry of harpist Li Shan Tan. Music by women composers has until very recently, shamefully, been a relative rarity in classical music. We applaud and wish to amplify the ongoing movement to redress this imbalance. In that spirit, our program includes music by eight different women: Hildegard von Bingen, Imogen Holst, Germaine Tailleferre, Cecilia McDowall, Joanna Marsh, Barbara Strozzi, Elizabeth Poston, as well as a new commission for Ensemble Altera by Kerensa Briggs. The cherry on top is Benjamin Britten's beloved Ceremony of Carols, a work largely associated with boys' choirs these days, but originally written for the women of the Fleet Street Choir. Our version restores Britten's original vision. The music is a kaleidoscope that makes the perfect backdrop for the changing of the seasons, as we move from the stark beauty of autumn into the wondrous period of winter to follow. TICKETS Level A - $60; seated closest to the choir, includes VIP reception following the concert Level B - $40; seated in the middle of the church Level C - $20; seated in the rear of the church

Not sure if you can perform the required tasks? Don't worry! Each participant will have the opportunity to bypass any inflatable. As always, proceeds from the race will be donated to the Specialized Learners Program at Lindsay Lane Christian Academy. The Specialized Learners Program at Lindsay Lane Christian Academy exists to provide an opportunity for students who are considered “unique learners” due to intellectual or physical disability to receive an inclusive education alongside their peers. The school is designed to remove barriers and deliver exceptional educational services to children with special needs in an inclusive educational setting. The program will build on a successful pilot program and target students with intellectual and/or physical disabilities, from preschool to elementary age, who are considered differently-abled learners. While these children learn in non-traditional ways, there are many benefits to incorporating these students into classrooms with traditional learners in their age group. The purpose of not knowing what is awaiting for you in the race is to accept challenges equivalent to real-life circumstances that students in the program and their families face on a daily basis. We encourage all participants to step out of their comfort zones and tackle these obstacles with full heroic effort, just like the awesome kiddos we're supporting with this race!

Nov 8, 2023 (UTC-5)ENDED
Providence
Create Art Today is a feedback forum designed for both amateur and professional artists seeking valuable input on their work. If you are an artist looking for inspiration, motivation, and a chance to engage with fellow artists, this group is for you. Our monthly meetings, held at Rochambeau Library in Providence, offer a supportive environment for artists to share and discuss their latest creations. Each member is encouraged to bring a new piece of art, regardless of medium or size, to showcase to the group. Following the sharing session, we engage in a unique activity by selecting a random word from a hat to serve as the theme for the next month's artwork. This allows for creative exploration and the opportunity to showcase your talent in response to a specific concept. We are actively seeking new artists to join us at Rochambeau Library on the second Wednesday of each month. Don't miss out on this exceptional opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals and broaden your artistic horizons. Register for this free event by emailing Jim at barfootjim@gmail.com. Explore your creativity and join Create Art Today - a feedback forum for amateur and professional artists.
