This is the best time of year for migrating shorebirds. Red Knots, Ruddy Turnstones, and many more birds are stopping over to feed on Horseshoe Crab eggs before heading to the high Arctic to breed. We'll visit several protected shorebird hotspots in our search for shorebirds and Horseshoe Crabs in action! We do not set a firm daily schedule in advance, leaving us flexible to maximize birding opportunities, taking advantage of weather conditions, tides, and recent bird sightings. We may walk up to 1.5 miles, over generally level, sometimes muddy or sandy terrain. PREREGISTRATION REQUIRED. SPOTTING SCOPES ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR THIS TRIP COST: $20 members, $25 nonmembers. Be sure to check the forecast in advance and dress in layers appropriate for prevailing weather conditions. The weather in Cape May can differ considerably from nearby inland areas and may be warmer, colder, or windier so it’s best to be over prepared. We may have to bird in the rain, so please bring your rain gear. TRANSPORTATION: Please arrive at the appointed time with a full tank of gas, as transportation to field sites is by private vehicles. We may walk up to 1.5 miles, over generally level, sometimes muddy or sandy terrain. Some trips involve walks over jetties. CANCELLATION : CMBO programs require a minimum number of registrants to run, five days in advance of the start of the tour, but are seldom cancelled. If we do cancel, due to lack of participation, severe weather, or unforeseen circumstances,we notify all participants in advance and all are eligible for a full credit or refund. Participants may cancel without penalty if greater than 30 days in advance. Cancellations 10 to 30 days in advance may be subject to a 25% service charge. Learn to use handbuilding techniques to create a face jug using high-fire clay! You will have the opportunity to use traditional or modern stories as inspiration to create and attach faces using handbuilding methods on pre-formed clay jugs, which will be fired by our potters. Teaching artist Phyllis Seidner-Vesely will show you how to turn your face jug into a hanging planter. Friday Instruction: June 13 Time: 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Class Duration: 2 Hours Location: Pottery Studio Ages: 16 & above Class Limit: 5 to 10 people Class Fee: $75 Instructor: Phyllis Seidner-Vesely Prerequisite: None Registration Closing: June 6 Seats are limited and booked on a first-come, first-reserve basis. The American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA) is dedicated to restoring and competing on classic motorcycles. The swap meet will feature 60,000 sq. ft of bikes, parts, merchandise, and collectibles. A great way to spend your weekend! ALL Sales are Final upon ticket purchase. The SCCA US Majors Tour is the pinnacle of amateur championship racing in the United States. The Northeast Conference wraps up its racing season at New Jersey Motorsports Park July 12th – 13th. Friday, July 11th is a test day and open for spectators. This is a rain or shine event. All sales are final upon ticket purchase . DIRECTIONS & PARKING: NJMP is located at 8000 Dividing Creek Rd. Discover the art of creating a ceramic candle holder from high-fire clay with Ceramic Artist Phyllis Seidner-Vesely. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll be guided through the practical steps of carving and decorating your own luminary. A luminary is a ceramic object that can be used to hold a candle. Under Phyllis’s experienced direction, learn the techniques to turn a pre-thrown raw clay object into a personalized luminary. Get your hands dirty with carving and adding intricate designs that give your piece a distinct touch. Experiment with the details of embellishment, enhancing the overall look and turning your luminary into a functional work of art. To finalize your project, choose a glaze that suits your style. Phyllis will take care of applying the glaze and firing your luminary in WheatonArts’ kilns.
