Details

The Chicago Poetry Center invites you to experience the Blue Hour generative writing workshop. This donation-based monthly event takes place at the esteemed Haymarket House in Chicago. Immerse yourself in an evening of literary exploration as you engage with two talented poets from the vibrant Chicago poetry scene and beyond. Before the readings commence, a limited-space workshop will captivate participants, delving into the intricacies of a poem by one of the featured artists. This immersive experience will offer guided generative writing time, allowing attendees to tap into their creativity and express themselves through the written word. The workshop will commence promptly at 6 p.m., with arrival encouraged anytime after 5:45 p.m. An hour of creativity will then give way to an enchanting open mic and reading at 7:30 p.m., followed by a time of community gathering. On February 21st, the esteemed Marty McConnell will take on the role of facilitator and host, creating an engaging and inclusive atmosphere for all participants. You have the option to sign up for either the workshop or the reading, or both. Each registration must be completed separately. The reading is free, while donations starting at $5 are kindly requested for the workshop. We believe that everyone should have access to the enriching experience of poetry, so if cost is a barrier, please email marty@poetrycenter.org for a no-questions-asked fee waiver. Haymarket House offers a safe and accessible space for all attendees. All restrooms are gender-neutral, and ASL interpretation is provided at each event. The venue is ADA compliant and fully wheelchair-accessible. For any specific accessibility needs, please email curator@poetrycenter.org in advance to ensure seamless access. Moreover, the space is equipped with a professional air filtration system, and masks are currently strongly encouraged for all indoor events. For your convenience, there is limited free and paid street parking available near Haymarket House. Additionally, the parking lot at Disney Magnet School is a viable option, although it is a paid lot. If you prefer to use SpotHero, there are nearby locations available as well. Don't miss out on the Blue Hour generative writing workshop, a transformative experience for writers and poetry enthusiasts of all levels. RSVP for the reading and get ready to immerse yourself in the captivating world of poetry.
