Kimono Salon and Lecture: Fundamentals | Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre

Learn about undergarment fundamentals for wearing a Kimono and identifying what type of Kimono you have. About this lecture: This introductory class is recommended for anyone enrolling in upcoming kimono dressing classes and anyone who would like to know how to identify what type of Kimono is appropriate for which season. Participants are encouraged to bring their own Kimono items they are unsure about and we will look at key characteristics that help to identify what they have and what they may need before beginning Kimono dressing classes in the future. About the Instructor Evelyn Leung is a professional IA 891 Costumer working in the British Columbia Film and Television industry and served as Kimono Coordinator for the Emmy Award–winning first season of the FX series Shōgun . She holds a Master of Fine Arts in Asian Theatre from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, a Kimono Dressing Teacher Certification from the Kyoto Nishijin Wasou Gakuin (着物着付け師範), and has studied kimono tailoring (和裁) at the Nishijin Wasai Fashion School. In 2025, she received her professional Japanese dance name, Onoue Kikukyōran ( 尾上菊京藍 ) , and is licensed to teach traditional Japanese dance (日本舞踊) Information Source: Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre | eventbrite
