Details

Experience the transformative power of art at the Drawing Workshop with renowned artist, Iona Kewney. This workshop offers a unique opportunity to explore various mediums including ink, pen, pencil, charcoal, and pastels, among others. With a focus on achieving clarity of vision through enlightened thinking and physical movement, Iona's approach delves into the interconnected rhythm of line and shape to bring form to life. Iona's artistic journey began in Ayrshire and led her to study Fine Art Printmaking at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee, where she achieved first class BA Hons. She further honed her skills at SNDO School for New Dance Development in Amsterdam and Cirkuspiloterna (renamed DOCH) in Stockholm. Having performed internationally since 1998, Iona has collaborated with esteemed directors such as Wim Vandekeybus - Ultima Vez and Alain Platel - Les Ballets C de la B. In 2009, she established her own contemporary dance company, 'Knights of the Invisible', alongside musician Joseph Quimby, captivating audiences worldwide with their dynamic performances. In addition to her stage work, Iona also shares her expertise as a teacher at performing arts schools and universities throughout Europe. Throughout her artistic journey, Iona has continued to explore the medium of drawing and painting, specializing in large-scale detailed pencil works. These surreal and figurative creations transport viewers to dreamlike worlds, blending hyper-realism and distortion. Inspired by dance states, physical movement, and live performance, Iona's subject matter delves into the depths of human experience, with a constant exploration of the body's capacity for change, mental focus, and physical energy. In addition to her main art pieces, Iona also creates traditional works inspired by her daily encounters with places and landscapes, infusing them with a vibrant energy and evocative mood. Currently based in Glasgow, Iona operates from her artist studio, where she continues to push the boundaries of visual art. Don't miss the opportunity to engage with this exceptional artist and join her in exploring the theater of life through the medium of drawing.
