Presented by RAW Taiko, this transformative arts practice celebrates its 25th anniversary of drumming with its fourth theatre production, h o m e. Immerse yourself in the evocative blend of drumming, movement, and language that delves into the depths of what home truly means. Experience the power of traditional taiko and original compositions by RAW Taiko members, including a special collaboration with Kyoko Ogoda. RAW Taiko, an artist-run organization, was founded in 1998 as Raging Asian Women Taiko Drummers and consists of East and Southeast Asian women and gender non-conforming performers. Their work carries on the diasporic Taiko tradition, born out of Asian American and Asian Canadian mobilization in the 1960s and 70s. Through their performances, RAW Taiko challenges systemic and internalized oppression, using taiko drums as a tool for creative resistance and social change. Don't miss this opportunity to witness their powerful showcase of self-expression, education, and community building. The event will take place at the wheelchair accessible Betty Oliphant Theatre in Toronto. Tickets are available on a sliding scale from $25 - $50 CAD. Please pay what you feel comfortable with on this scale. A portion of ticket sales will be donated to an organization that helps people find their way home.
