We’d love you to join us for a feel-good day by the water at Willen Lake North, right by The Maze in Milton Keynes. This is a space to slow down, breathe, and be around others who simply want to feel a bit better—no pressure, no expectations. Whether you’ve never tried yoga before, haven’t practised in years, or it’s already part of your life, you’re very welcome here. You don’t need to be flexible, spiritual, or “good” at yoga—just come as you are. At the heart of the day is community and mental wellbeing. We know that life can feel heavy at times, and for many people—especially those who’ve been unwell or struggling—it’s not always easy to find ways to reconnect with themselves or others. This event is about opening that door in a simple, supportive way. There’ll be a range of sessions throughout the day, led by local wellbeing practitioners who give their time because they genuinely care about making these practices accessible. Sessions are free for those who need it, otherwise participants are asked to make a donation to contribute towards the event's costs. This independent initiative is rooted in kindness, inclusivity, and the belief that small moments—moving your body, sitting in nature, sharing space with others—can make a real difference to how we feel. It is also a unique space where local teachers practice Karma Yoga by offering their time and skills to the community. Uncover the fascinating history of witchcraft and how patriarchal ideas shaped the image of a witch. Followed by Q&A. “What else is woman but a foe to friendship, an inescapable punishment, a necessary evil…”  So claimed the 15th-century writers of the Malleus Maleficarum , or ‘Hammer of the Witches,’ a handbook for identifying women thought to be conspiring with the Devil. How did women come to be seen this way? And what impact did this publication have on the lasting stereotype of the witch as a harmful, evil woman? In this talk, Dr Julia Phillips examines the circumstances that created the malevolent female witch and why she became such a powerful figure. We will trace witchcraft from ancient times to today, showing how women were cast as disruptive forces in their communities. The talk concludes by considering the role of women in 21st-century witchcraft, contrasting it with Early modern Europe. She received her PhD for her research examining how witches and witchcraft were featured in newspapers in Victorian Britain. Her work has been published in books, academic journals, and popular magazines, and she is a regular presenter at conferences and events.
