Derived from the Yoruba language, 'Alawo Dudu' translates to 'a person of colour', exploring the multifaceted experiences and struggles of young black males. Through these striking graphical representations, Ayomide aims to convey the symbolic power of water as a purifying force, cleansing the historical remnants of racial corruption and oppression that continue to affect the lives of black men. Join Ayomide as he shares his poetry inspired by these powerful images and invites participants to reflect on their own stories, crafting short poems that resonate with their personal journeys. Ayomide Bayowa is a distinguished Afro-Canadian theatre practitioner, absurd playwright, and sociologist. He is a distinguished fellow of the University of Ibadan Theatre Arts Department and a graduate of the University of Toronto. Recently appointed as Mississauga's Poet Laureate for 2021-24, Ayomide has received numerous accolades for his literary prowess, including recognition as a top-ten gold entrant of the 9th Open Eurasian Literary Festival and Book Forum in the UK. His debut poetry collection, 'Gills', has been hailed as a semi-finalist in the prestigious 2021 Cave Canem Poetry Prize and has been included in the curriculum of Queen's University's Transnational Black Literature course.
