The outdoor installation pays tribute to the vibrant African American culture and community that once thrived in the 7th Ward. With skillful use of decals and banners, Carter and Lewis merge candid archival photographs of Black residents from the early to mid-20th century with the present-day landscape, creating an ethereal and energetic imprint that transcends time. Embark on an immersive journey that unveils these captivating images, adorning the buildings across the Ward, evoking a spectral presence. Before the tour, guests are encouraged to visit the Richard Allen Museum and The Colored Girls Museum installation at Mother Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church. The tour will depart promptly at 11AM, with the doors opening at 10AM for early arrivals. The tour will span approximately 20 blocks over 2-2 ½ hours, allowing guests to explore at a comfortable pace. It is recommended to wear comfortable shoes, and individuals with mobility challenges are encouraged to bring a lightweight folding stool or wheelchair for their convenience. The tour will conclude at Rex at the Royal on 15th and South St., where guests can view the extended archival photo gallery of the installation.
