Skate Workshops in The Lab @ TSU Recreational Center is the ultimate space for skaters to enhance their skills, progress, and cultivate elite talent. Located at the University Museum in Houston, Texas, this workshop aims to provide a platform for skaters to excel and develop into well-rounded athletes. Participants can conveniently park their vehicles at Lot A-B on Cleburne Street near the TSU Post Office. Please note that parking is free, but make sure not to occupy any reserved or handicap spaces without the proper placard. Lot A offers ample parking spaces, while additional parking can be found in the adjacent Lot B. Unfortunately, due to liability reasons, the workshop cannot accommodate children at the TSU Rec Center. However, our dedicated instructors are thrilled to offer private lessons for children. For more information about private lessons, kindly reach out to us directly or contact one of our instructors. The workshop offers various levels of classes throughout the day. From 1:00pm to 2:00pm, there's a Beginner level class suitable for adult beginners or those who haven't skated in a while. Our experienced instructors will focus on foundational skills such as falling, standing up, moving forward, and turning around. The Level 1 class, taking place from 2:15pm to 3:15pm, caters to beginners who are comfortable with rolling and eager to improve. Group instruction will cover skating forward, pivots, stopping, basic dance moves, and more. For skaters looking to learn new moves and techniques, the Level 2 class is ideal. From 3:30pm to 4:30pm, participants will explore transitions, dipping, spinning, dribbles, and other advanced skills. The All Levels/Specialty Classes, running from 4:45pm to 5:45pm, are perfect for those who want to expand their repertoire of moves. Experienced skaters can sharpen their skills with advanced techniques like skating backward, jumping, and executing intricate leg movements. After the classes, attendees can practice what they've learned during the Open Skate Practice session from 4:30pm to 6:00pm. This session is free if you have registered for a class; otherwise, it is available for a fee of $15. Rental skates are available for $5.
