Experience an immersive after-dark event like no other in Milwaukee. Forest Home Cemetery, the oldest and largest cemetery in the city, invites you to join them for "Spirits of the Silent City: Unfinished Business" on Saturday, October 21, 2023. This unique event brings the cemetery's notable residents to life through the performances of professional actors. Step into the Silent City and uncover the stories of some history-making individuals, including Dickey Chappelle, the first female war correspondent, Dr. Laura Ross Wolcott, the first female doctor in Wisconsin, and Nr. Ezekial Gillespie, the Black man who fought for voting rights for all Black men in Wisconsin. As you explore the cemetery, you'll also encounter a trio of bickering beer barons, adding a touch of humor to the evening. Don't worry, this event is designed to entertain and enlighten, not frighten. Despite the spooky setting, the focus is on storytelling and history. Last year, tickets sold out quickly, so be sure to purchase yours early. New this year, limited premium parking is available onsite for $20. Tours depart every 15 minutes from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday and Sunday, and until 9:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Please arrive at least 30 minutes before your scheduled tour to ensure you don't miss out. Remember, this is a walking tour at night, so be prepared for uneven terrain and walking over a mile. Vehicles are not permitted in the cemetery, but there is onsite parking available on a first-come, first-served basis for an additional $20. Street parking is also available on Lincoln Avenue. Enter through the pedestrian gate at the Lincoln Avenue entrance near the corner of Forest Home and Lincoln avenues. Please note that this tour is not suitable for children under 10 years old. Tickets are $45 and include all transaction fees. Refunds will not be issued, and the event will be held rain or shine.
