Join MOCA Jax for an immersive adult art workshop entitled "Studio Practice: Collage as Communion with Desirae Lee". This engaging course, led by local artist Desirae Lee, invites participants on a creative journey exploring the transformative power of art as a means of fostering connections within communities. Through the medium of collage, attendees will have the opportunity to create shared rotating collages, promoting collaboration and collective expression. The workshop will delve into the significance and impact of public art, examining its role in shaping communities, sparking meaningful conversations, and fostering thought leadership. Additionally, participants will explore the concept of collective healing through art, discussing how creative processes can serve as a catalyst for personal and communal growth, resilience, and reconciliation. Open to adults and teens accompanied by an adult, this workshop offers a unique opportunity for individuals to engage in a communal artistic experience. All necessary supplies will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring additional materials to contribute to their collages. Non-Members can attend for just $15, while MOCA Members, UNF Students, Faculty, and Staff can enjoy a discounted rate of $5. Please note that MOCA Memberships do not include NARM and SEMC reciprocal members. To secure your spot, registration is required, as space is limited. Elevator Upgrade will be taking place from Sept 18 to Nov 18, resulting in no upper level access. However, the museum will have exhibitions on the first and second floors, with second floor access available via stairs only. All programs during this time will be held on the museum's lower floors. About Desirae Lee: Desirae Lee is a multi-media artist, journalist, poet, and filmmaker based in Jacksonville. Her work focuses on telling honest stories that celebrate vulnerability and find beauty in the mundane. Desirae has received numerous awards and grants for her creative initiatives and has exhibited her digital art installations along the east coast. She holds a B.S. in Photojournalism and Innovation from the University of Florida and an MFA in Film from Howard University.
