Villa Thida Mekong Riverside

Good location and good breakfast. However, guests are not allowed to wear shoes inside the hotel, which didn’t make much sense as the floor in our room was dirty — my shoes were honestly cleaner than the floor. We also rented a scooter from the hotel, but it was given to us with an empty tank. Since it was Lao New Year, we visited around five petrol stations and found them either closed or out of fuel. One place offered petrol at 160,000 kip, which we refused since the scooter rental itself was only 190,000 kip. We decided to return the scooter, but about 1.4 km before reaching the hotel, it ran out of fuel completely. Fortunately, a kind local shop owner helped us by selling petrol in a beer bottle, which allowed us to make it back. We were quite disappointed that the scooter was provided with an empty tank during a holiday period, without any warning that petrol would be difficult to find. The hotel only refunded 120,000 kip, and overall it was not a pleasant experience. If you rent a scooter here, make sure it comes with a full tank or confirm fuel availability in advance.

This hotel beautifully blends French elegance with the natural charm of Southeast Asia, creating a truly unique design. The room had plenty of windows, offering excellent natural light and making it bright throughout the day. The bed was soft and comfortable, providing a wonderful resting experience. Communication was a breeze as we could converse in Chinese. The owner was exceptionally warm and friendly; they not only proactively helped us with our ticket purchases but also gave us many thoughtful tips for exploring the local area.

Very friendly staff and good breakfasts (choose your own meal and drink, everything was delicious). As for the hotel itself, we had a hard time sleeping. There was no fogger, and mosquitoes bit us all night. There were cracks near both the front door and the windows. There was a bar nearby, with loud music and shouting until midnight. The bed and pillows were very uncomfortable. The pool was at a different hotel. The location was quite convenient.

We stayed in a spacious, windowless room on the basement floor. The toilet and shower were separate. The ceilings were low, especially if you're a man around 180cm tall. There was a damp smell and construction noise from next door. The location is excellent, and the rooms on the upper floors are great.

I stayed here for 5 nights. It's conveniently located with good access to the city center, yet just far enough away, and being one street back from the main road, it was quiet and peaceful. The room had a tastefully simple interior, and reading a book on the porch while enjoying the breeze was absolutely blissful. The owner was also very kind, and I didn't encounter a single problem during my stay. The water server, allowing me to refill water anytime, was a great help. From a Japanese perspective, I did notice that the drainage was a bit slow and that conditioner and tissues weren't provided, but overall, these were minor issues and didn't bother me at all.

I booked a twin room and it didn’t disappoint, the bed was just the right level neither too hard nor too soft. They provide daily cleaning and fresh change of towels. The breakdast is plated and needs to be ordered the evening before. They have a good selection of baguette and choice of how you want your eggs, other Asian breakfast choices are also available like congee or rice noodles. Do note that this property is on the other side of the Xanamkhan river from the heritage area, so it is a bit far from where the main attractions are. But, the guesthouse provides bicycles for rent. This location does offer some advantage, it is in a “locals” area so guests have access to a local market as well as restaurants that serve truly Lao cuisines and at very affordable prices. The property owner is friendly and quite attentive to us guests, he always asks us if we have everything we need and if there is anything they can provide. Considering all, if and when I’ll go back to Luang Prabang in the future, I will definitely consider staying here again.

We stayed for four nights at Kongkham Guesthouse in Luang Prabang, and overall, it offered excellent value for money. Pros: The rooms are equipped with all the basic amenities, including air conditioning, a hot shower with a bidet spray, a kettle, a mini-fridge, as well as a standing fan and AC. Although the building is older, the room was clean and well-ventilated. The bed, while firm, was comfortable, and it came with a balcony overlooking the Mekong River, offering beautiful views. The guesthouse also provides a washing machine and simple cooking facilities. The host was a major highlight – warm, easygoing, and resourceful. He was able to help arrange local tours and even coordinated group bookings to split costs. He also proactively lent us an electric bike for short trips around town, a thoughtful gesture that left a strong impression. Cons: Being an older building, the bathroom looked a bit dated. While generally clean, more attention to detail in both the rooms and common areas would enhance the overall feel. Overall: This is an affordable accommodation with beautiful river views and a genuinely warm and helpful host. It's ideal for travelers who prioritize practicality, location, and a personal touch over a luxurious experience.

Thongbay Guesthouse

Friends, it's very good! I plan to take my parents abroad to relax during the National Day holiday. After careful selection, I chose Thongbay. Because the company did not inform me of the holiday information in time, I used two apps to book hotels, both of which were Thongbay. The experience can only be said to be very good! When we left the hotel, the two elderly people also expressed high praise and strong reluctance, which made me very relieved. Our English is not very good, and we are more worried about communication difficulties when we arrive, so I sent an email to the hotel in advance, explaining my itinerary and that I used two apps to book the hotel. The hotel quickly replied to me and said that they understood our itinerary. When we arrived on the same day, we provided our passports, and the boss quickly got our itinerary and booking status. After a series of thoughtful instructions (including how to order breakfast for the next day, when the hotel can pick us up in the city for free, etc.), the boss took us into our room, which is very local and very clean. In the room, the boss also told us very considerately and in detail how to use the shower, how to use the air conditioner, how to use the fan, and that we must close the doors and windows from 6:00-7:00pm, because the flower-legged mosquitoes are very dense during this period. During the explanation, as long as there is something that I don’t understand, the boss will patiently explain it again. On the morning of the second day of check-in, we went to the waterfall. The driver we found came to pick us up in advance and told the boss about our trip to the waterfall. So when we were leaving, the boss stopped us and gave us a backpack, saying that there were towels and other supplies in it. If we finished swimming in the waterfall, we could use the towels inside. Really super considerate! The most amazing thing is that on the third day of our stay, we went to the charity site and couldn't find the way back to the hotel. We finally followed the map and walked to the vicinity of the hotel. We met the hotel's puppy. The puppy must have gone out to play. When passing by us, it suddenly turned around and walked forward to lead the way. If we walked slowly, it would stop and wait for us. It took us to the door of the hotel. After the hotel owner said morning to us at the door, the puppy wagged its tail and turned around and walked away. Long live the puppy!

The room is very clean and the location is good. The main thing is that the boss is so nice. He helped me change money according to the real-time exchange rate. It helped me a lot and saved me a lot of trouble. Thank you so much to the boss. He is Chinese. Please rest assured to book. This is my home in Laos. It's not a trustee.

I stayed for 4 nights. The room and bathroom facilities were very clean. The shower pressure and temperature were fine. There were times when the hot water would fluctuate between cold and warm (perhaps depending on peak usage times?), but it was within an acceptable range. It was quiet at night, making it easy to sleep. However, the walls aren't soundproof, so you can clearly hear conversations and sneezes from next door. This might be an issue if you have noisy neighbors. There was a full range of amenities, and the hairdryer and kettle were new and easy to use. There's also a refrigerator. I docked one star because used amenities weren't replenished, and the coffee wasn't refilled on the third day. The location is excellent, right in front of the Mekong River, with the night market a short walk away. The sunset cruise pier is also directly opposite. It's bright at night and feels safe. A very convenient spot. Breakfast is served downstairs at Joma, where you can choose from several set menus. The coffee and bread were delicious. On one day, there was a lipstick stain on my coffee cup, so I think they could do a better job with washing. Hotel staff are very friendly and kind. My first visit to Luang Prabang was a wonderful experience. Overall, I think this is a fantastic hotel. I'd love to visit Luang Prabang again and stay here. Thank you for a lovely time.
