A perfect soulful getaway, even despite the storm! Thank you for the atmosphere, Liberty Guesthouse!
My stay at Liberty Guesthouse Maldives left the warmest and brightest impressions! I want to share an honest and detailed review for future guests.
Pros and Atmosphere:
Friendliness and Care: A wonderfully warm, family-like atmosphere prevails here. All staff, from administrators to chefs, are always smiling and ready to help. You feel it from the very first minute.
Excellent Food: The food is a separate delight! Everything is very tasty, fresh, and varied. I especially want to highlight the diverse fish – it was cooked perfectly. It was so delicious that I personally called the chef to express my admiration and gratitude. This is top-notch! Guests from the neighboring guesthouse, who didn't opt for a meal plan, went to cafes, but as they told me, it was all tuna there, and they wanted to try different kinds of fish. My guesthouse served various fish, and it was always very delicious, especially if you squeezed some lime on top – absolutely delightful.
Cleanliness and Order: The room and grounds are impeccably clean. It's nice that everything works: outlets, lights, air conditioning, and plumbing. No surprises. Important note: the outlets are non-standard, an adapter is really needed. I bought an adapter at Malé Airport; I didn't check in other shops.
Local Island – An Immersive Cultural Experience: Staying on a local island is a unique experience. It's not an isolated resort but an opportunity to see the real life of Maldivians. The island has playgrounds, and domestic animals; I occasionally heard roosters crowing in the mornings.
Pros: Authenticity, the opportunity to walk through the streets, visit local cafes and shops near the guesthouse. I really liked that you can book excursions directly at the reception – everything is well-organized. I went snorkeling and swam with nurse sharks.
Cons/Features: The island is Muslim, with its own rules. It's important to know and respect this. There's a mosque near the guesthouse, and you'll periodically hear the call to prayer, which is quite loud. For tourists, there's a beautiful separate beach (bikini beach) where you can sunbathe and swim as usual. It's fenced off with a green fence. However, the entrance there is quite coral-y. And in the lagoon next to the hotel (in the area where locals live), you can only swim in a T-shirt that covers your shoulders and shorts/knee-length bottoms. The island is small and not particularly touristy. It's like a small village; you can easily walk around the entire island. Few people were swimming. I was prepared for this, so I didn't feel uncomfortable. It's part of the culture. In the evenings, they go octopus hunting during the low tide.
Transfer, of course, is a test of endurance: Yes, it takes about 1.5 hours by boat from the airport. Unfortunately, I was unlucky – I got caught in a strong storm, and the journey was very difficult. Many people got seasick, had to hold onto handrails, and brace themselves with their feet. It was a bit scary and tough. This is a factor you can't control, but you should be mentally prepared for it. In good weather, it's just a regular boat trip. Thank God, the weather was good on the way back, and I was warmly escorted to the port, helped onto the boat, waved goodbye, and reached Malé very calmly and comfortably. The boat has bags and water.
Conclusion: I really enjoyed my stay at Liberty Guesthouse! This is a place for those who want to experience local life and cuisine and are looking for a peaceful, heartfelt vacation with excellent service. I definitely want to return in the future and wholeheartedly recommend this guesthouse! Thank you for your hospitality ❤️
The hotel is conveniently located on the island, right next to a beach where you can swim, and there are many diverse cafes nearby. The hotel has everything you need: its own cafe, a swimming pool, Wi-Fi, and they organize any excursions and transfers. The staff are very attentive and always smiling, doing their best to accommodate all your needs. I recommend booking a ground-floor room; it's much larger than the others and has direct access to the pool. We really enjoyed everything and will definitely be back.
I stayed at White Tern for 4 days. The island is very simple and unspoiled, and the locals are incredibly friendly. I even got to catch big fish and chase manta rays and whale sharks! I didn't want to leave, so I extended my stay for two more nights. Halin, the guesthouse owner, is a really friendly guy and a good friend worth knowing.
Lovely little hotel on Dhigurah Island, helped us have a fantastic stay on ”Local” Island.
Communicated with the hotel via WhatsApp (phone number listed in hotel information) prestay. Helped with the booking of the boat transfer from Male to Dhigurah.
Every interaction with the team at Whaleshark Beach was with an engaged, smiling team member. The team made for a very relaxed, carefree holiday.
The restaurant meals were delicious and good value.
When taking a full day boat excursion, the packed lunches were just as tasty.
With the early morning boat transfer back to Male, they proactively offered a takeaway breakfast.
Whaleshark Beach is definitely a great choice for visiting the natural beauty that is Dhigurah and the surrounding marine life.

We really liked the hotel. They took care of our arrival in advance, emailing us about transportation options from the airport. We were met at the airport with a sign with the hotel name, taken to the speedboat, and then taken to the hotel door, where polite staff were waiting with welcome drinks for the whole family. The room was clean and spacious, with two balconies and sun loungers on them. There was a kettle, bottled water, shampoo, shower gel, and plenty of towels, including beach towels. The room was cleaned twice a day, including twice-daily changes of bed linen. The beach was a 3-minute walk away, and the hotel grounds were beautiful, picturesque, and landscaped. The breakfast was delicious and varied, with four options to choose from. Each breakfast included toast, jam, freshly squeezed juice, and fruit salad, in addition to the main course. The waiters were very polite and attentive! Saraswoti is a very polite and attentive waitress.
A wonderful hotel, a pleasant friendly atmosphere, recommend especially to amateurs of active rest. There are only six rooms, silence, calm and order (no hotels and tourists nearby). Rooms are large and clean, their beach. On the biuini beach 15 minutes a pleasant walk. Menu for any taste, time is unlimited, quality is excellent, cheap and very delicious. Fresh water, coffee, tea 24 hours a day unlimited. Transfer from/to airport. Equipment for snorkeling is provided, the instructor trains and controls. Every day, tours are organized to different locations (isles, reefs, resorts, Shark Point, manta Point), prices are very loyal , especially compared to other hotels as the hotel has its boat. 24-hour attention of staff to your wishes and enthusiasm. I recommend to lovers of quiet and quality rest.
