I had a great stay at Hey Wake Up Sydney Hostel. The location is super convenient—close to public transport, shops, and many attractions in the city, which made exploring Sydney really easy.
The hostel itself has a very friendly and social atmosphere. It’s perfect if you want to meet new people, especially as a solo traveler. The staff were welcoming, helpful, and always ready to assist with any questions or recommendations.
The rooms and common areas were clean and well-maintained. I also liked the shared spaces—they’re comfortable and great for relaxing or chatting with other guests.
Overall, it’s a budget-friendly place with good vibes, a great location, and everything you need for a comfortable stay. I would definitely recommend it and would stay here again!
• room: overall clean and equipped with fridge and microwave which was very convenient. My room was facing the side of a kindergarten so in the morning after 7.30 it was pretty noisy and during the day also
• amenities: there is a well equipped kitchen, a little small for all guests but it is just about planning when to use it, there is a nice garden and books and games available in the living room
• location: 10 min walk to the beach, 20 min walk to the supermarket and overall it is in a nice quier neighbourhood
• staff: friendly and supportive
my background: I travel 320 days a year since 8 years staying in all range of accomodation from hostel to 5star. I just review objectively what I see with no judgement

I had a fantastic stay at Pacific House Hostel in Sydney and can honestly say it was one of the highlights of my trip. The hostel has a great atmosphere, very friendly staff, and a real sense of community that makes you feel welcome from the first day.
What truly sets Pacific House apart is the active social program they organize. The coastal walk along the beaches was absolutely amazing — stunning ocean views, fresh air, and great company. The walk across the bridge was another unforgettable experience with incredible views of Sydney Harbour and the Opera House.
The picnics were also a highlight: beach barbecues with a relaxed vibe, good food, and lots of laughter, as well as simple but lovely sandwich picnics in the Botanical Garden — a perfect way to enjoy the city and meet new people.
A huge thank you to the entire team for creating such a warm and fun environment. Special thanks to David from Poland, who ran many of the activities — his energy, friendliness, and great organization made a big difference and truly enhanced the experience.
Highly recommended for anyone who wants more than just a place to sleep, but a memorable stay full of activities, new friends, and great memories
Overall a good hostel! Kitchen is well-equipped, toilet is generally clean, room is ok, staff are nice and there are daily activities if you want to participate. Only downsides are that kitchen can sometimes be dirty when people don't clean after themselves (and the fridges are really messy), and there's not enough washer & dryer!
THE most incredible location. Super safe, easy to get to and around. Would absolutely stay again. Rooftop bar has the most fabulous view. I'd skip the food but appreciated everything was 10% off with the YHA app's QR code. The first night was so boiling hot that sleep was near impossible, but staff listened with care the next day and the next night was fine. Great coffee and croissant the final morning at the in-lobby cafe. Next time I think I'll go for the breakfast as it looked pretty good being set up. A very unique place to stay, and in such an accessible spot. Appreciated the plaques with archeological info, and how easy it was to check in and out with 24/7 reception. Thanks for a memorable stay!
The room's facilities are simple and clean, and the mattress is comfortable to sleep on. There's a park just across the road, which is great, and it's very close to Chinatown.
Good location. Easy check in/out using goki app. Just touch the button on the app, and the Front door to hostel opened. And another button on app to open the door to the room.
The kitchen, toilet, and eating area are run down, but clean and well kept. The room is small but in good condition.
They tucked in the pillow case and bedsheets for you. And just checked out without removing the sheet. How nice!!
Janitors are always on the go to keep the place clean and tidy.
Some beds have power sockets next to it, but not every bed.
Remote Customer service is very friendly and helpful.
The hostel is a bit further from the city centre and beach but makes up for it with its great location in the rainforest. It has a very relaxed atmosphere and everyone is nice. It is however not the cleanest hostel I’ve stayed in. The kitchen was dirty and a lot of people left their dishes in the sink. And there were never enough (clean) towels to dry of the dishes as well. I still had a good time though so would definitely recommend and if you’re there do the Icebath! It was amazing!

The actual place looks much older than in the pictures. The single room amenities were very basic: just a bed, a simple cabinet, a clothes rack, a mirror, and a fan (quite high up) – no air conditioning. The street-facing room was very noisy. The shared bathrooms had two hot showers and three toilets. There are only stairs, no elevator, which is inconvenient if you have luggage. The front desk had a pride flag hanging, and they were quite friendly. It's very convenient that Coles and a shopping mall are just across the street, and it's not far from the Museum and Central stations.

GGuest UserOK for one night.
The hotel is above the pub, which is also very busy in the afternoon.
There is also live music there on Sundays until around 9 p.m.
Everything is perfectly fine, unless you have room 10 next to the washing machine/dryer and sleep next to the ventilation. Even though drying and washing is not allowed after 9 p.m., it was very annoying.
The hotel rooms face the back, so in the morning you also have the noise from the loading area of the supermarket.
On the positive side, the room was in a modern condition and the staff were all very nice.
The beach is a ten-minute walk away.
GGuest UserFor a hostel, the cleanliness and facilities weren't bad. However, as it's still a hostel, it's best not to have sky-high expectations. The most surprising part was the complimentary breakfast and dinner. Considering this, it's arguably the best value-for-money hostel in Sydney.
GGuest UserHotel is walking distance to the beach, plaza, children park. But it’s very old and needs urgent renovation. The room was spacious, clean and beds were fine. The bathroom was clean but have very old fittings. Shower taps were very hard to turn on, knobs were falling off in doing so and took us a while to operate and when we managed to turn that in, it started making very loud noise. Bath tub is small. Some of the ceiling cornice were falling off from the bathroom. There wasn’t any microwave in the room, bar refrigerator is an old model frost ones, the hairdryer was an ancient one, making loud noise and the other side of the hairdryer was broken. It was a bit unsafe to use. No tissue box, bin was available either.
GGuest UserWas a great stay. Communication is not their strong point. They didn't reply to 6 messages done by phone and through their website. All I wanted was 3 more rooms for one night.
Lady at reception sorted it all out quick smart upon arrival. That was impressive, but the non-communication will always linger.
EEric HooperAwesome staff, so close to everything, laundromat across the road as a winner for me, gym 2 minutes walk shops 5 minutes walk, stayed for 3 weeks bed was nice and comfortable air conditioning just right, absolutely amazing
TTraveler …Looking for an unforgettable stay in Sydney? Look no further! I recently had the pleasure of staying at a fantastic hostel that offers the perfect combination of convenience and comfort, right near Sydney's top attractions.
This hostel boasts an unbeatable location, placing you within walking distance of iconic landmarks such as the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge. Exploring these renowned sites and immersing yourself in the city's vibrant atmosphere has never been easier.
GGuest UserWhat a little gem. We had a friends catch up and stayed here. It's so close to everything. 1 block from the Palm beach ferry, 2 blocks from Ettalong shopping centre. The room was clean and tidy with the usual inclusions of microwave toaster jug, tea and coffee. The beds were very comfortable and the linen was good quality with several pillows so you can choose the one that's right for you. The bathroom is a bit old fashioned, however the shower had plenty of hot water. The accommodation is within the Galleria, a Greek / Italian inspired complex hosting lots of small shops, boutiques, restaurants, galleries, beautiful nick nacks and treasures, cafes and even a hat shop. The complex has it's own movie cinema. After booking in we went to bar Toto. Very fitting with the theme of a bygone era. Comfy old style lounge chairs, dimly lit, old movies on the big screen and great cocktails, however there are several other options if this isn't your scene. We chose to have breakfast at one of the cafe's within the complex. Very good crepes and coffee, then spent some time looking at the many and varied shops. Eric's hat shop is a must. He is so knowledgeable and friendly. He can explain the process of making hats and show you some of the tools used to make hats. It was so much fun trying on hats and taking photos. We grabbed lunch, pizzas and noodles which were both very good, and sat enjoying the live music in the centre of the complex. If you feel like a stroll, there's a concrete walking path along the waterfront from the ferry to Umina. Once you have parked your car, you really don't need to start it again until you are leaving. Enjoy.
GGuest UserThis is a motel hotel. It is clean and has a double bed. However, the freezer door in the refrigerator is broken. It is not cleaned every day. The service attitude is good. There was a short circuit when cooking in the room. The management staff solved it immediately without criticism. The biggest advantage is that it is cheap and close to the town train station, but it is more than 90 kilometers away from Canberra, so travel efficiency is not high. Generally tourists to Canberra should rarely stay at this hotel. The reason why I stayed here was because I couldn't find a hotel with a suitable price in Canberra.
