I had to wait until 1330 hrs for my 1200 hr a booking as the rooms were not available at 1200 hrs. There were no towels present in the room. I had to ask for one towel from room service. Towels were given after 3 hrs. Rooms were neat and clean. The breakfast menu was very limited. Sambhar was cold, so i had to ask to warm it. 500 ml bottles were chargeable over 2 per day.

He also provides you with a leftlet that has some basic sinhala words. The roof top bar has an amazing view of the city. Location of this hotel was excellent but unfortunately service lets it down. At the breakfast buffet the first day was excellent after that it was a steady decline. We had to ask for a cup of coffee numerous times from different waiters before getting one minus sugar, saucers & teaspoons. One morning one of the managers in yellow tie picked up our plates unfortunately I hadn’t finished & had to grab my good before the plate was taken. With room service one time we had no hand towels that was no big deal the next day they cleaned the room & left no towels they told us they would be back in 5 mins with towels one & a half hours later we had to ring reception to be told they would send someone up straight away, over 2 hours later we finally received our towels. In the cafe we sat at a table had to ask for menus waited over an hour & a half but no one took our order! Not to mention our room bell rang at 11:10pm & someone trying to open our door when we shouted out they said they were bringing us water!

We visited as a family of 7, including 2 kids. Chandana, the host, was very accommodating to our needs and went out of his way to make our stay pleasant. The place had a backpacker retreat type setting with Boho themes. The place is clean and well kept but appears to be a bit old, so expect the usual quirks of older homes. Parking is available for small cars only. Larger vehicles would need to park at the top of the cul-de-sac by the arterial lane. Overall, it was a positive experience.

The outside is warmly furnished. The interior environment is clean. There is a private bathroom and efficient air conditioning in the room. The sea is right outside the hotel. And there is a good café and iconic train there. The reception and owner were friendly and helpful. It was morning when I transferred over. The owner helped me check in early when the room was full, which was very decent and reasonable. All in all, whether it's a trip or a stopover, this hotel is bang for the buck. 👍🏻

I had a stay of 8 nights in this hotei. The location of the hotel is good. Services is also good but the internal furniture's were damaged. Earlier the room offered to me was very small & even there was no cupboard or shelves in the room. After changing the room they shifted me to another room but the cupboard was broken. Hotel need to upgrade their furniture's rest all was ok. I am not sure i will stay again here

A beautiful building in a very pleasant area of Colombo; the architecture and interior design of the hotel are a joy to behold and the vast majority of staff are polite and courteous. Plenty of amenities nearby to suit all tastes and interests. The breakfasts were great both mornings (both the Sri Lankan breakfast and the Western style), and they really lived up to the high expectations we’d had from the Instagram marketing we’d seen. We were upgraded to the North West Suite, which was a larger room, for which we were greatly appreciative; a couple of issues with working plugs and appliances (coffee machine and hair dryer) were reported and rectified, although the wiring/plugs more broadly were temperamental and poorly placed (as expected, possibly, with the charm of an older hotel). However, the bed was comfortable, the hotel was quiet, and the bathroom was well appointed. Our only qualm was with the overzealous Head of Housekeeping, who seemed to not grasp the subtlety required for such a role, or the privacy with which guests might like to enjoy the beautiful hotel. It appeared that he lingered all too often in search of a tip, and didn’t quite appreciate the boundaries one might desire when paying a reasonable fee for each night. My wife and I took to speedily locking the door and placing the ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign on the handle to keep his incessant interrupting to a minimum. His deputy was, however, an asset to the hotel, who seemed to comprehend the subtle art of providing high quality service for a luxury stay in a lovely hotel. All-in-all, a great choice for a hotel in the heart of Colombo, and hopefully, during a busier season, the aforementioned Head of Housekeeping might spread his overbearing attention across the many rooms of the hotel.

Our first stay at this hotel and it was delightful. Quick and friendly check in, we were generously upgraded to a one bedroom suite which was very spacious with a seperate living room. It has a fully functional kitchen, with dishwasher and a washing machine for clothing. Balcony and well appointed room with coffee machine. The breakfast which was included in our room rate was delicious and had a broad range of options. We chose this hotel over the Shangri-La and were very happy with the choice and the hotel is much newer and therefore at the moment, in better condition. Swimming pool is large and receives lots of sunshine. I would stay here again.

Wow! What a fantastic crew at this hotel. They really go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and enjoy your stay. Whatever you want, they will help you find. In addition, they have a simple but quite hospitable breakfast with some decent choices. I think what impressed us the most was the care they took to notice of we needed water, seemed lost, or needed help, even hooking us up for a motorcycle rental. Wonderful experience to staying in the important architecture. The site is originally owned the De Saram bros. and given to the Bawa trust then became an accommodation for public. The building is renovated by Geoffrey Bawa, so it’s must visit for architects and designers. The building is in good condition, it’s not for luxury but for indifferent experience. The master staff is really nice and knowledgeable, he kindly showed me other rooms! I had a pleasant and precious experience here. Note: wifi and hot water is really good. Breakfast is international style. (non Sri Lankan) The main entrance is really deep from the street, you just ring the bell of the huge black gate.

Really great stay in Colombo! Wish we could have stayed longer. Old colonial style hotel where (we only found out during our stay!) the queen stayed twice on her visits to Sri Lanka many years ago. A place full of history! Our room was simple yet had everything we needed including on demand hot water (no geyser!), mini fridge to keep our drinks cool, AC and even (something I’ve never seen before) an inbuilt on demand music speaker with a handful of channels!
