Had a fabulous breakfast at the restaurant. It was the best gallo pinto I had the entire trip. The hotel room, however, was less than fabulous. The walls were thin, and there was no window. Our room was adjacent to the restaurant, and a speaker was mounted on the other side of our wall. It played loud music late into the evening, including after the restaurant was closed, keeping us awake. The staff were also noisy. You could clearly hear every truck and motorcycle that passed all night long, and the bed was not comfortable enough to compensate. The hot water in the shower only worked in 5 minute intervals. You had to shut it off and wait for it to warm up again.

The shower ran out of hot water and was ice cold after 4ish minutes. Room was clean, but the walls were VERY thin. Ours was at the end of the hallway, sharing a wall with the restaurant. There was a speaker mounted on the other side of our wall that played loud music late into the night and the staff were loud after closing. It kept us up. Also could hear every car/truck/motorcycle that drove by all night. Our breakfast was not free, even though our reservation said it would be. Food was good, but it was better across the street.

Super friendly staff, very clean rooms, love the natural wood everywhere. Restaurant - great ceviche, tostones w guacamole, gallo pinto and chorizo. Good selection of wines too. Really close (15min) poas volcano , La Paz waterfalls, and Starbucks coffee plantation. Not far from the airport either - 45 min approx , will definitely be back with more friends.

I wouldn’t stay here if they paid me. It is freezing and no heat in the rooms. Toilet, shower broken. They gave boards with nail instead of log for fireplace which burned out in a few hours and we were freezing all night. Woke up with head cold. Toilet is broken and doesn’t stop leaking water. Shower doors have to be lifted to move since the slider is broken. Bed is too small (6 ft - 85!kg) with either the head banging on board or feet hanging off.
On plus side, the staff is excellent.

We don’t normally book ahead for places but with two young children we decided to do it on this trip. We wanted to visit Poas on the first couple of days in Costa Rica so headed straight here from the airport, arriving around midnight, the night guard greeted us and showed us to the room. The hotel were really helpful with questions/communication prior to arriving. The room was perfect, traditional wooden cabin style with everything you need, cosy with huge extra blankets and an electric fire to keep warm in the cooler evenings. The staff at the hotel were amazing, and incredibly help and accommodating.. they did some emergency washing for us, let our little girl help out feeding the hummingbirds in the garden etc. The breakfast included was very good!! You can really tell it’s a warm and welcoming family run business. One of the best places we’ve stayed in Costa Rica and we’ve been coming here for 12 years. Highly recommended!!

Our stay was good and we had a good time. Initially we had a problem with Credit card payment, and several attempts did not go through. Then there were multiple payments against the card. With the help of Hilary, this was resolved quickly. The restaurant was great and the location very peaceful. Recommend this hotel for access to Poas Volcano. The hotel is very well situated for access to the important venues to visit.

We had a wonderful meal and very friendly staff. It has a nice atmosphere and we really enjoyed. It was close to all our tours of Poas Volcano and La Paz waterfalls. I would definitely come back. Pura Vida!

The owner was so friendly when we checked in. He showed us our room where we had hummingbird feeders hanging right outside so it was cool to see some species that we've never seen before. The room was clean and the breakfast was made to order. We also ate dinner at the restaurant the night before. The location is a 15 minute drive to Poas volcano crater which is why we stayed at this hotel. It was a one night stop after flying into San Jose on our way to La Fortuna. It was definitely worth the money.
