Check in was very easy but upon opening the door to my room I was greeted with a bed that had been slept in and the smell of urine. I went to the toilet and there was dried up urine splashes on the floor that I had had to clean up myself. There are no toilet rolls either so I had to ask the reception. I had been out all day working and just wanted to relax. It’s was now 20:30. I was hungry and went to the restaurant with my friend who had already stayed at the hotel the night before. It appeared that the person serving us was the only one on shift at the time, the food wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great either and it took more than half an hour to arrive. There was no cutlery on the table either I went to another table to get the cutlery myself as the staff member didn’t seem too bothered to get us. Looking at the table next to us, there were used glasses and dishes of guests who had probably eaten there before us and the table wasn’t cleared. Getting the bill also took ages. The staff member lamented that he had a busy day and was very tired. I settled in for the night knit to realise that there was no phone service or wifi accessible in my room. I had to go out into the hallway in order to use my phone. The entire ordeal was like something out of a bad movie. I don’t understand how this can be allowed to happen.

This hotel is squalid and not fit to be operating as an hotel. We were led up a filthy stained staircase, past the damp stained cielings on the landing to a freezing grubby room with mould around the window and a mildew lined bathroon. When we said it was not acceptable we were shown 2 other equally vile rooms. We declined to stay there and asked for our money to be refunded. The manager "wasn't there" and has not yet had the courtesy to call us. The hotel also has an emergency food hygiene closure notice on it.

First visit to the Scooner and was absolutely class and we were in room 29 and Exsperience some strange noise and cat ball going off in room and outside of door next to room 28 and 30. Amin young chap when we arrived went above and beyond and was very friendly and helpful. Well done to you Amin you work so hard and always pleasant indeed. Thank you so much. The last photo 📸 shows something floating around this was in room 29.

I think we were the only people in the hotel , the bar and restaurant were closed. The entrance is dirty and smelt of damp , the corridors leading to our room were damp and cold . Our actual room was clean but very outdated , the tv didn’t work and the shower was scorching hot which was hard to cool down . We stayed in the family room with our two children and the beds were comfy. The staff were pleasant and helpful but could tell they seemed a bit embarrassed about the hotel. This hotel is in a gorgeous location and it’s such a shame it’s in a bad way . It needs taking over and doing a complete renovation. I think one day it could be revamped and lovely again . I won’t be staying again .

A Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Notice has been served on the establishment (by Northumberland County Council Environmental Health Dept) as a result of an "active rodent infestation" The bar and restaurant are closed as from end October 2023 The Food Hygiene Rating is 0 out of 5 (no surprise there) I will leave you to make up your own mind

The hotel is a building site. I believe we were the only patrons and everything was a Health and Safety hazard. No heating, dangling wires, 'tatty' paintwork, cobwebs, mould, leaking ceilings, duty managers mobiles unavailable. 30/10/23 another Environmental visit and we were advised to report our experience to Trading Standards. I have emailed for a refund as we booked for 3 nights and only stayed 1 as unable to get home - but as previous reviews I don't expect to get compensated. The Hotel should be closed until fully refurbished
