The Market Hotel

Just had a Sunday lunch here with my wife. Absolutely wonderful! Fantastic food and quality drink. The gravy with the roast dinner was to die for as was the New York Cheesecake! The hotel/pub is under new management with Stacey and Martin your hosts. Please pay a visit as you will not regret it!

We heard this place had new owners so decided to give it a go and we weren’t disappointed. The steak was perfectly cooked and delicious, drinks were fab and staff were very attentive and friendly. They made a lovely expresso martini too! Highly recommend a visit.

New management and doing it well. The new owners of the market are perfect . We have now visited a few times and the food has been faultless . We had a steak night there recently and It was some of the best homemade food I’ve ever had in a pub . The food was so good we went again with the family for a Sunday roast , again faultless. The bar staff and owners are so welcoming and friendly. It’s a firm favourite of ours now and I can’t wait to go again . Well done the market .

Under new management, the whole establishment went through a 6mth renovation. We visited with friends for drinks on the Friday and then lunch on the Sunday. The food was excellent and the mushroom starter was to die for. Staff are great too!

My wife and I went for Sunday lunch on 28/4/24. We were a bit wary as the previous time we were there we walked out of the restaurant. BUT it is now under new ownership so we thought we'd try it again. WHAT A CONTRAST. The Hotel and restaurant have been completely refurbished over the last 5 months. The decor is modern, clean and welcoming. The new owner is a very experienced restauranteur and had previous restaurants in Jersey. They actually knew about wine and their produce is locally sourced. The menu is good with just the right number of choices. The service was good, the prices reasonable. We did not have to wait long for our meals to come. When they did they were well cooked, the portions were reasonable too. We could have had extra vegetables at no extra cost but we didn't need them. WE WERE COMPLETELY BLOWN OVER BY THE DIFFERENCE THE NEW OWNER HAS MADE. It is now an excellent retaurant to eat in. We are local and our next time at the restaurant will be for the Wednesday Steak night! We thoroughly recommend them.

Made a return visit to where I lived many years ago. Heard about The Market Hotel from friends, to use as a base, and wasn't disappointed! Newly reopened after an extensive, yet tasteful renovation, was delighted with the area, ( perfect for exploring a beautiful part of the countryside). The decor and ambiance, together with "mine host's" charm and friendly manner, obviously very experienced in making their clients needs a priority make this a must visit. Also worth mentioning, as one of the owners, is an excellent Chef, you will certainly not go hungry, choosing from their menu, of many home cooked dishes.

Pretty tired decor, the bathroom in particular needed a refurb, TV remote didn't work. Loud music from bar below until 1:30am and then loud noises from the bar until around 3:30 am so not great for sleep. It was about the cheapest hotel in Alton though and conveniently situated very centrally. Staff were friendly on check in.
