Throughly enjoyed our stay here, staff were very friendly, room was clean and the bed was so comfy, had the best nights sleep would highly recommend

Positives are good food and friendly staff. Rooms need some attention. My room was small ,bed ok but pillows uncomfortable. Shower was awful! Barely any running hot water, electric shower. I travel alot for business and this shower really not acceptable. One very small shower gel so if you wanted more than one shower ,bad luck !

Location good, staff friendly and helpful, service excellent, food ok to good.
I was in room 1 which was clean but ...
heating wasn't working so room was cold, they managed to get the radiator working eventually but never really got warm. Also heating went off at night.
Never got the wifi t connect
Only one double power socket but there were USB A sockets in the beside light fittings
One of the ceiling spotlights didn't work
The shower dripped all night
Bed very lumpy, felt every box spring
The most bizarre thing was the cold water tap in the bathroom turned clockwise to turn on, the hot tap worked the usual anti-clockwise way - very odd.
Don't think I'd stay there again it's a bit run down and needs updating

We booked a couple of days away and the Lion was very comfortable the staff were polite and helpful. Very busy on Saturday evening we reserved a table and our meals were served quickly and we enjoyed what we had my husband had Liver and bacon and said it was the best he’s had.
The only negative's I would say was the bathroom could do with a really good clean and the fire alarm went off three times after 12.30 so I had a restless night.
We still enjoyed our stay and the weather was lovely after the rain in February.

The Lion is well placed a short walk from the centre of Belper, and we have stayed there a number of times. The staff are always very helpful and pleasant.
However, Room 17 still has the same bedside wall light out of action 5 months on from when I reported it in August 2023. The dressing table is very tired, with lots of marks from hot cups etc. on it and what looks like a cigarette burn on the white platter the tea, coffees etc. sit on.
The bathroom is fairly recently refitted and the shower over bath works fairly well, but on the floor in a nook next to the tap end of the bath is unpleasantly stained. Another towel rail across from the bath would be good as well. It did not appear that the radiator was working.
That said, we would stay at the Lion again for its sheer convenience and atmosphere.

This is a great little hotel with a lot of character. The bar and restaurant areas are well maintained and staff are super helpful and friendly.
Check-in was a breeze as was check-out.

Good place for visiting family in Belper just off main shopping street and plenty of pubs with in walking distance .
