We stayed at several hotels on our 7 day road trip. Super 8 Ames was among one of our favorites! The room was nice and big, plenty of amenities. We enjoyed the local resources. The front desk attendants gave excellent recommendations for places to go sight seeing. I've put this location in my phone as a favorite place to stay.

The environment is very good, the traffic is very convenient, that is, there is no place to eat at night, the hotel bar is closed at 9 o'clock. There is no place to drink at night. There is a laundry on the second floor of the hotel, which is very, very convenient and easy to use. We could not check in to Country Inn and Suites down the road even though we had reservations . Front desk clerk at the TownePlace said they can squeeze both our families in and check us in early. The clerk took care of us. Got us into our rooms and made us feel right at home. Got the kids a snack. Gave us a run down of the hotel, breakfast, pool....etc. She follow up with phone call and made sure all was okay. The rooms all had kitchenettes, were clean and the stay all friendly the whole stay. Now the only place we will ever stay in Ames.

Nice mid-priced hotel with everything you need with free breakfast (nothing special on the breakfast menu), and in-room amenities like a coffee maker, fridge (with freezer compartment) and microwave. There's a pool and exercise room. Plenty of handy parking. I find the wall of the hotel a bit thin - I can hear the next room's TV and talking. A couple frustrating things. They will provide daily room service and when I checked in they asked if I wanted daily service or not. I said no - I do not want my room serviced, and thus left things out in my room of value. When I came back someone had been in my room. I was not happy. There was no ”do not disturb” sign in my room. Also the iron did not work properly - no steam and there was only one pant hanger in my room. Still an average place to stay.

When we arrived, there was no one at the front desk for quite awhile. Long enough that we shouted out for someone. My room was missing the closet door and had a light bulb out above the sink. The air conditioner quit working in the middle of the night. The next day we went down to breakfast at 7:00 a.m. because we had a conference to attend by 8:00 a.m. The man taking our order told us the cook was detained. I explained that we had a deadline and if we couldn't get breakfast before that time, we would go elsewhere. He assured us the cook would be there soon and gave us a cold stale pastry. We had a cup of coffee and waited. After we couldn't wait any longer for breakfast we left. I reported the light bulb out and the A/C not working to the front desk before leaving. When we arrived back to the room, the A/C appeared to be working, but the light bulb was still out. In the middle of the night the A/C quit working again. Some of the staff were doing their jobs. Others were not. I'm a City Clerk and we have a conference in Ames every July. We will not be back.

Room seemed fine initially. Small but adequate since all we needed was a nights sleep. Didn't even check in til almost 11pm. But then I tried to get into the bathroom and it was stuck. Had to use alot of force to open/close and the door jammed at the bottom and it started falling apart. Then, went to shower and had no shmp/cond or soap so I had to run down myself to get it. But the kicker was the balled up wad of hair, that was NOT ours, in the top corner of the shower. From there, it just makes you question everything about the place, regardless of how friendly the staff was. Told the guy at check out and all he said was OK. Thank you. With no apology or anything. Needless to say, corporate will be called.

Not bad, mainly because the location is better. The facilities are relatively old and the overall conditions are average. It is on the edge of Duff Ave, not far from the supermarket, and there is a panda restaurant nearby.
