Family Hotel Kooyk

We were greeted by Pierre upon arrival, who was so chatty and friendly. We even got an early check in. Location for this place is perfect as it’s only a 40 minute walk from Central or a 10 minute tram. We booked a canal view room which was immaculate and the bathroom even though on the small side still accommodated me and my partner perfectly well. The windows don’t open super far up so you may struggle to catch a breeze to get air in but we brought our own mini fan so we were okay on that part. We would definitely come again and stay with these guys. We received a lovely farewell from Mary upon our departure.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights during ADE, and unfortunately, it wasn’t a pleasant experience. On our first morning, we were startled awake when hotel staff entered our room unannounced while we were still sleeping. There was no knock or any warning—they simply opened the door, apparently needing to activate the fire alarm. Shortly afterward, the fire alarm went off four separate times, yet we were never informed this would happen in advance. This lack of communication and disregard for privacy was disappointing, and the overall experience was only worsened by the unfriendly attitude of the owner. Overall, it’s not a place we’d recommend.

My recent stay at Hotel Kooyk in Amsterdam was marred by a shocking and unacceptable experience. I feel compelled to share my dissatisfaction and disappointment in the hope of preventing others from facing a similar ordeal. My two friends and I were looking forward to a pleasant and comfortable stay at this hotel, but our night was anything but restful. Imagine our shock when a mouse invaded our room during the night, actually running on our bed. The initial reaction from the hotel staff was less than reassuring. When we brought up the issue, we received a flippant response along the lines of, "we don't invite them in. I get them at home." This response was far from the professional and empathetic attitude one would expect from a hospitality establishment. The issue only escalated when we inquired whether such an occurrence was acceptable in a hotel, to which the response was, "ah probably not." The complete lack of apology, concern, or compensation was truly disheartening. It's imperative to stress that this incident not only disrupted our night but left us feeling uneasy about the overall hygiene and condition of the hotel. If one mouse managed to infiltrate our room, it's safe to assume there might be a broader issue within the hotel premises. We requested a more suitable solution, but the offered course of action was to mention the issue to the maid, who "might be able to help." This solution was inadequate and far from reassuring, considering the gravity of the problem. I implore Hotel Kooyk to address this issue promptly, with the utmost seriousness it deserves. I would appreciate a response from the owner or management to explain how they intend to resolve this issue and what measures they will take to ensure it does not happen to other guests in the future. In light of this unfortunate experience, I believe it is only fair for the hotel to compensate us. The room we paid for was clearly not fit for purpose. Mice are classified as vermin, and it is unacceptable to have them running amok in a guest's room. In conclusion, I cannot recommend Hotel Kooyk to anyone, even as a budget option. I strongly urge potential guests to consider paying a little extra to stay at an establishment where hygiene and guest satisfaction are given the priority they deserve.

I had booked a stay in April through ***********. Due to an urgent hospitalization I was unable to appear, but they refused me a refund (according to Italian regulations, in the event of the impossibility of using the service, the refund was due even in the case of a non-refundable rate).

A group of friends and I were warmly welcomed by the owners upon arrival, we got in via ferry and arrived 4 hours prior to check in with all our luggage, thankfully we were allowed to store it before check in! After checking in we were greeted by a sizeable room with a balcony, perfect for what we required as a group of lads basking in the local culture. The beds were comfortable and we all enjoyed a great sleep after a busy day! We opted for the Irish breakfast on our first morning which was very dericious and we were ready for our day, the hotel is situated in a great location close to the city centre and plenty of local bars nearby. The value for money is second to none with Kooyk and we will be visiting again after such an excellent experience! I couldn’t recommend this hotel anymore, 10/10!

Noisy, uncomfortable, quite unfriendly. We were shocked when we saw the room, a small cell barely wide enough to contain the small double bed, with peeling paint. The mattress was two pieces of foam which drifted apart immediately. There was no natural light. The noise from other rooms disturbed us so we had no decent sleep here. When the door entry cards failed twice, the staff looked annoyed at having to let us in (during daylight hours) and blamed us! Worse still, early one morning I had to ask two staff members to stop screaming at each other in a heated argument next to our room. One positive, the bathroom was clean and the shower excellent. And the location is great - just a few minutes walk from the central beauties of this lovely city. However this place needs a lot of work and a change of attitude towards its guests.
