Uga Ulagalla is set within nearly 60 acres of rural woodland and feels like an oasis in nature. The main pool is large, very attractive and often very quiet. We had it to ourselves on a few occasions. The hotel is well-situated for excursions to Wilpattu, Anuradhapura, Sigirya, Dambulla etc and the Naturalist team can arrange these on your behalf, but it’s also just a wonderful place to relax and do nothing for a day. Liyawela, the main restaurant, produces high-quality and varied menus for breakfast and dinner. The curry and rice dishes were without exception delicious. The villas are very spacious and have a luxe feel, aircon is very effective, the plunge pools are more spacious than I anticipated, all kept spotlessly clean by housekeeping. Bicycles are provided or reception will arrange a buggy for transport, but personally, we loved to wander round the grounds and see the peacocks and the mongoose. Huge thanks to Pasindu of the Naturalist team for arranging and guiding our excursion to Dambulla Cave Temples and taking us on a nature walk round the property and to the nearby tank, we saw so many birds we wouldn’t have spotted or been able to identify ourselves. Thanks also to Geeth, Andrew Tharindu, Ravi and Hasith on the catering side, always providing helpful and friendly service. The housekeeping team also went above and beyond, co-ordinating laundry and even fixing one of our bikes. We will definitely return and will prioritise Uga Resorts for other stays in Sri Lanka
