Adler Hotel

We had the briefest of overnight stops here and I wish it had been longer. The hotel is in the middle of historic Appenzell, our room was large, comfortable and well appointed, and breakfast was fantastic with Appenzell butter and yoghurt thrown in. The hotel's EV charger was in use when we arrived very late at night but we were able to access one behind the bank at the top of town, so happy days!!! The standout feature, however, was Mathias the manager, who left us a welcome note and was so warm and welcoming in the morning. He also helped us design our one day in the region, a beautiful alpine walk that suited us very well. This is definitely a good place to stay if you want to enhance your experience in the region.

Without a doubt, this hotel is a gem, perfectly situated in the heart of town, allowing you to leisurely explore the charming surroundings. Mathias, the owner, whose family has been running the place for seven generations, welcomed me with the warmth of a long-lost friend. His valuable advice enhanced my stay, allowing me to make the most of my limited time there. My room, while modestly decorated, was impeccably clean and incredibly comfortable. The quality of the mattress was exceptional, and I loved the fluffy down comforter. The room also boasted a balcony, enhancing the overall experience. I initially chose this hotel because of its free parking facility, a decision I'm truly grateful for. The exceptional customer service, coupled with a delicious dinner at their restaurant, makes me wholeheartedly recommend this hotel.

We have not left yet, but our experience after 1 1/2 days here has been wonderful. The room is spacious and comfortable. The hotel is centrally located. Matjaz (Matthias) has been incredibly helpful from the moment we entered the hotel looking for parking. He has helped us find two great walking trails, directed us to restaurants, bakeries and places to have drinks and has been extremely friendly. What a great person to have at the front desk- one of the nicest, friendliest, helpful people we have met in our 21 different visits to Europe! ( my wife just informed me he is the 7 th generation innkeeper). We will be recommending this hotel to our friends and son that live in Zurich.a

Our 4 month trip through Europe comes to an end in 2 weeks. We have stayed in some incredible places, but Hotel Adler has been the best experience so far. We felt welcome from the moment we walked in the door. A free room upgrade was only the beginning. The warm hospitality and charming decor sealed the deal for us. Matjaz was especially a joy to talk with and hear the history of his family hotel. Appenzell feels straight out of a story book, and if you want to complete your fairy tale fantasy, stay at Hotel Adler.

I went to Appenzell to hike. Looking at an hotel in the area, I found the Adler (thanks to TA). Although upon booking I was warned that staying in the historical part of the hotel could be a challenge for a tall person, I insisted. So I was given a lovely room upon check in, that was almost perfect for a tall person (the shower was slightly too small for me, but again I asked for). The view was gorgeous (see picture), and the service faultless. A good bed followed by a nice breakfast made my stay very pleasurable. I'll certainly go back.

We traveled in March 2022, and were one of the few people staying at that time. Low season. However, the family that owns the hotel was welcoming and are the nicest people ever. Wonderful restaurant on site, and a fondue room in the 500 year old basement. Don't miss their fondue dinner. They even sent us a cheese fondue kit when i emailed and simply asked for their fondue recipe. They had chargers for our hybrid rental car, and Appenzell is a wonderful, picturesque town. We'll be back for their 200 Matthew was the best. Met his brother and Father as well. Beautiful people.

We loved our stay at the Hotel Adler! We stayed for 2 nights in a twin room with a balcony. Everything about our stay was great — the room was comfortable, the location was perfect, the Little Italy restaurant downstairs served delicious pasta and pizza, and we enjoyed such warm hospitality especially from Matjaz, Urs, and Stefano. Really hoping we can come back to lovely Appenzell and stay here again.

What a fabulous little hotel. We had 3 rooms for 2 nights. The owner (Matthew) was fantastic. The service was great and the breakfast was very nice. We also had dinner at the Italian restaurant on site. The pizza's were very good. I highly recommend AdlerHotel if you are lucky enough to visit Appenzell. Much like the town, the hotel is very charming.

A great decision to pick this place for a stay in this wonderful town. 400 years of history and yet the place is also super well-maintained and kept it up to also flow with time. I’m very impressed by the service and they were so friendly and warm throughout. The room was great and cosy! Breakfast was simple and nice but the highlight was definitely its fondue! I think the best one I had so far in Switzerland! Double thumbs up! Highly recommended for anyone to have a great time in Appenzell.
