Dining Experience: The candlelit dining hall, live piano music by the owner, and high-quality food were consistently highlighted as standout features. Some reviews noted the exceptional breakfast and formal dining setup.

The facilities are extremely old. The room booked on the day of check-in is broken. The entire castle is broken down. You can only stay in the rooms outside. Although the price is higher, you have to stay in an old house when booking here.

From the moment we walked in, we received the warmest welcome. The absolutely gorgeous owner, Mrs. Nightingale, ensured everyone was exceptionally well looked after. The beautifully cooked, traditional dinner, served in a magnificent room with a real fire place was perfectly complemented by carol singers and captivating stories that brought the rich history of the place to life. The entire evening felt like we have stepped into a move set as we were fully immersed in the real history of Great Britain. I can’t wait to be back again and to explore the place even further by visiting the Norman museum.

We went for a mid week meal which was especially nice being local to be able to dine in such wonderful surroundings. The meal was a set meal, soup, turkey, and sticky toffee pudding. The meal was very good value and tasted excellent, the sticky toffee pudding was exceptionally good. The evening was made extra special by Peter playing the piano beautifully and then giving us a history talk about the castle.

Arrived here 19th December, very dark place with no lighting outside , check in was simple but very slow , got shown to our room and within 2 minutes had booked somewhere else to stay , so I'm not going to drag this out but it's just about derelict , black mold in various places , plaster hanging off the wall and thick dust under the bed , enough to make our skins crawl , don't get a key either to let yourself in at night , you have to park outside the courtyard which is no problem but if arriving at night take a torch , overall the place is disgusting as you will see in the photo's, we have been running hotels for many years and usually hate trip advisor as many reviews are exaggerated but this I can assure you should not be allowed to be used for any purpose until they get their act together .

Loved 🥰 this stay. We’ve been a few times and each time it gets better. The hotel receptionist was very polite and helpful The hotel was decorated for Xmas and looked stunning The spa is amazing and we sat in our food hot tubs drinking Prosecco and star gazing - fantastic experience. Kai was really good at explaining how to get most out of the thermal experience. Then we ate in the restaurant and food was delicious Breakfast fabulous and choice of cooked breakfast … best smoked salmon and hollandaise sauce ever! Long walk from Appleby to Ormside and relaxing drinks in warm conservatory overlooking the castle and vale - unique superb view. Another lovely meal in the restaurant and fab breakfast next day. One of our favourites out of 100’s of stays. Thank you Appleby Manor owners and staff

No signage or lighting on arrival. No arrival instructions provided in confirmation or reminder emails. Room dirty with ripped and stained furniture. No hospitality tray/tea and coffee supplies. No dinner or breakfast available. Seemed like they should have just not accepted my booking and closed for the night instead.

The Castle was closed although the website and the sign at the end of the drive indicated it was open. My partner and I walked toward the castle with the app open as we wanted to buy a ticket but only family tickets were available to buy. As I arrived at the gates which were open two dogs appeared to be sent by their owner and appeared barking quite fiercely. I retreated swiftly and the gates were shut behind me. A family also approached the castle and were told rudely that the castle was shut. they had purchased tickets on line and he simply said they'd be refunded. They had traveled with their children some distance

We paid entry to visit the Castle and the grounds. A strange setup to actually get into it and gate always seemed closed. You have to park and scan the QR code to pay as there is not enough staff to greet you at the entrance. We did enjoy going round the castle and liked the fact that it hadn't been modernised in anyway. However, extremely disappointed in the grounds, not maintained at all. Also disappointed and similar to a previous review, after paying and doing research, the castle is actually up for sale at the end of October - I do feel somewhat conned here. I would still recommend visiting this castle, I wouldn't recommend for older folk as you will struggle to get up the small and narrow staircases.
