We've stayed here a few times now on our regular visits to Derbyshire. It does have a country inn feel with a more business feel. The rooms we've booked are small but everything we need for a short stay & comfortable. The food is good - pub standards done well. Nice, helpful staff. Fine breakfast. Would always choose it because relatively good value for around here, minimal fuss & better food than a lot around here.

After a country walk with friends we visited the Devonshire for lunch. Ordered 4 portions of nibbles at £24 to start. They consisted of 4 rings of calamari, 3 small chicken wings, 3 small chicken goujons and a small potion of belly pork bites. Tasty but not enough to feed a mouse. Three of us had pies for our main meal. They were homemade and tasty but again very small portions, the peas came in a pot that you would normally put a portion of butter in. About 35mm diameter and 15mm deep. The glasses of wine were £12.50 each. All four of us agreed that we liked the pub but would not return for food. The waitress was very polite and helpful. All in all over £170 including tip for a small lunch for 4 people in a country pub in our opinion is overpriced.

Whilst driving into the area over the Peak District i needed to stop for a comfort break (very desperate for the loo!) Very conscious that this was a hotel/bar i thought i would use the facilities and offer to pay for something to take away (couple of soft drinks and a few packs of crisps or a cake perhaps?). As i was desperate i made a beeline for the loo, again concscious this was a bar i was going to make sure i offered to pay something or at least take something away so not to be rude and just use the loo and leave. Upon leaving the loo i saw a lady with black hair and glasses who worked here and told her i had just used the loo and would she like mr to purchase something in return, her response left my gobsmacked......very rudely throwing her arm in the air and in front of a table full of other guests "No, you just carry on", i chose not to cause a scene (as she had taken care of that already) and left feeling quite annoyed that my offer to pay for something in return for using the facilities was met with such a rude gesture and comment. I pass through the area very often for work and it is safe to say i will not give the place a second look next time, maybe The Wheatsheaf down the road would be more kinder to potential guests and not very rude at the first meeting!!! Yes, i went straight to the loo and maybe should have asked before but as i was desperate i thought offering to pay as a way of thanks/apologising for dashing straight to the loo was the best option here. Avoid the place if you don't want to be rudely spoken to by members of staff!!!

What a wonderful little hidden treasure. I was pleasantly suprised by quite how lovely my stay was here. I was travelling for work and it was a long journey made last minute and i was worried about not making it in time Lisa immediately put my fears to rest and made sure staff were there to welcome me on my late arrival. Parking is excellent. Room was lovely i particularly loved the dresser table as it was so me 🌹 The bed was comfy and bathroom had a lovely powered shower and great smelling products to use too. Also the tea/coffee hot chocolate sachets were luxurious rather than your bog standard uht milk you can get fresh from the fridge downstairs 👍 The restaurant in the evening the pork belly bites and camembert were delicious, melt in your mouth. Every member of staff was warm and welcoming. I missed breakfast on the first day but the lovely staff member let me take some fruit and even got me a yoghurt as i had an early start. I forget her name but she had dark hair and was very welcoming and cheery. Was easy to let myself in/out. Breakfast on the last day was free and lovely cooked breakfast options, my muffin was hard as a rock which is my only peeve of the visit but there were plenty of pastrys and bread available so wasnt a problem. I will be staying here again if im ever in the area, Lauren

Lovely stop out of the cold with the dogs after a long walk. Everyone was so welcoming and despite it being busy we didn't feel rushed and we didn't have to wait long. The food was top notch. We both had the beef roast and the cauli cheese and red cabbage as add ons. The meat was tender and cooked to perfection. Compliments to the chef and the friendly team.

Really disappointed the food was awful the buns for the burgers had been toasted until black burnt to charcoal they were sent back for new ones but the same chicken used presumably kept warm or reheated it went back 3 times each time the chicken came back more cooked until harder and drier until it was impossible to eat. The pie crust was the same my husband never leaves food but the crust was too hard ho cut with the knife so he had the filling left the crust, the food was very overpriced £17 for a very plain burger and a small bucket of salty fries. Our drink order also took 20 mins to arrive and 30 min wait for food. We did speak to a manager who was very embarrassed and only charged us for drinks not the food which was fair enough snd welcome. I just wonder what sort of chef burns the bread but still sends it out anyway !!!! The waitress was really nice very happy to help and gutted to be bringing out such substandard food. First time I have been out for a friends birthday and she has rung the next morning to apologise for her choice of restaurant it’s a shame we are very local and have eaten here before but never again !

Had a brilliant night here with quality and reasonably priced food with friends and family. Was very impressed and would definitely come back. Staff were so friendly and polite, made us all feel very welcome. I had the sirloin steak which was cooked to perfection, and every single member of the group I was with had a great meal
