A Stanthorpe Getaway

We were looking forward to a relaxed family getaway for my mum’s 80th, but several issues affected our stay. The inside fridge stopped working on the first night. With a group of 10 this caused a huge disruption. We had to move all food to an outside much smaller drinks fridge and constantly juggle food outside and buy ice to keep our food cold. This was especially frustrating as we also needed to keep my Mum ‘s medication refrigerated and because of her mobility constraints she couldn’t access the outdoor fridge safely at night. We initially tried to resolve this issue by suggesting the host drop some eskies around to us we were informed they live 3 1/2 hours away and couldn’t respond promptly. When we attempted to discuss a small compensation amount over the phone we were advised this request would need to be put in writing. After providing a detailed account compensation was denied and we were told the outdoor fridge should have been sufficient. A replacement fridge was offered for our last night but only if the host could arrive early in the morning to reassess the broken fridge. Given it was our last night and we wanted to minimise the disruption to my mum first thing in the morning we thought it best just to struggle on. We also had water leaking from a skylight onto one of the beds during g a rainfall Overall the lack of timely support and the refusal to offer minor compensation for a key amenity failure left us disappointed. Future guest should be aware that if something goes wrong assistance is not readily available as hosts live several hours away.

Lovely spacious property with great kitchen and BBQ for home cooking. Close to local Ballandean wineries and lovely views over to the vineyards. Very peaceful comfortable stay.

Be aware when booking Rose Cottage it has aged considerably since the photos on the site. Also note the photos on the listing cover multiple properties. We were very shocked at the size and condition of the Cottage. The side sliding doors were unlocked when we arrived with no lock on the side sliding mesh door. The front door lock was very loose and felt like one good pull would have it open. The property is much smaller than looks in photos and very tired. We didn’t feel safe here and did not stay.

We had a fantastic time exploring the surrounding areas, coming back to a quiet yurt with everything we needed to make our stay comfortable.

Was nice staying in the yurt-style unit as a quirky change from the norm. Great cooking facilities. A good number of local attractions. Short walk to the Ballardean pub (although the pub’s food was disappointing). Would stay here again. Want to visit again soon.

Our plans changed and we ended up unexpectedly in Ballandean with no accommodation. Internet showed no availability for one night. Thankfully the owner let us stay! Great self-contained yurt with our own wood heater all laid ready. And one of the best pub meals I’ve had is just a 3 minute walk away!

I stayed in the Rose Cottage on this property and it was great! The most noticeable aspect of it was how well-equipped the accommodation was. WiFi was hit and miss but that wasn't a big deal.

A old cottage adapted into a comfortable studio-style accommodation. Has an open fire which would be cosy in winter but creates a lingering smoky smell in the cottage (which moderates after you open up the doors and windows). Good value for money and very close to Girraween NP and a family friendly (newish) pub serving good food.
