Location is great, a few streets from Trinity Street, where Gwen and Bryns houses from Gavin and Stacey are. 15 minute walk to Barry Island, there is a really nice Wetherspoons just down the road (and around the corner) for cheap food and drinks. We arrived early and was able to check in which was great, we were in room 2 which is exactly like the photos on website, it has amazing views. Really quiet area. Breakfast Mon to Fri is 7am to 8.30am, luckily we are early risers but hadn’t realised before booking. Train station close by (always down a hill then back up in return!) we got a train to Cogan then walked along the Barrage to Mermaid Quay in Cardiff. Boat ride to the city then train back to Barry (on recommendation from Helen at the Hotel) A lovely stay even if only for 2 nights.

Beautiful rooms photos when before we booked don’t do the room justice. A super friendly welcome when arrived. Very clean hotel and immaculate room. A coffee machine which I thought was a lovely touch. Really tasty welsh breakfast with a smile. Super Comfortable bed, so much attention to detail in the room. So worth every penny. I would definitely stay here again.

We stayed for two nights as we were in Barry for a wedding. On the day of arrival we checked in easily to Room 6 which we found clean, tidy and very comfortable. Reading through the hotel information in the room we noticed that the bar and small restaurant were open in the evening and so decided to eat on the premises that evening rather than mooch into town. Certainly the right decision as firstly we enjoyed a drink in the snug and cosy bar where we placed our order and then proceeded to the restaurant once our order was ready. King Prawns in a garlic and white wine sauce for starter whch was absolutely stunning, followed by Rib Eye Steak with a 'house' sauce, vine tomatoes, mushrooms and beef chilli chips which was a superb dish, cooked to perfection and very tasty. I relished every mouthful. Being full we didn't bother with dessert but the dessert items on the small but adequate menu were tempting to say the least. We noticed the hotel has a very comprehensive wine list at very reasonable cost and opted for a most acceptable white priced at £13 per bottle which by today's standards is more than fair. After a good night's sleep a shower then down for breakfast, and what a breakfast ! Freshly cooked Full 'Welsh' brekkie consisting of Bacon, Sausage, Black Pudding, mushrooms, vine tomatoes, small potato croquettes, fried egg and fried bread...substantial to say the least, with toast and maramlade or jam etc along with a steaming pot of tea - just the ticket to start a long day. I should add that eggs can be served 'as you like them', another little touch noticed is that the management and staff are more than accommodating. After the day's festivities we retired to bed and were asleep in no time. Up in good time next morning, down for breakfast, again thoroughly enjoyable, then on the road back home. The wife and I found the Aberthaw House Hotel extremely friendly and welcoming without being pretentious. Cosy, clean and comfortable with management and staff eager to ensure their guest's stay is enjoyable made for a memorable stay. We shall, without doubt, return at some point in the future, if only to enjoy the food coupled with a relaxing atmosphere, good night's sleep and hearty breakfast. Well done team Aberthaw House...........

Helen who runs the hotel is very friendly and approachable, as was the lady who was working at breakfast. I had mushrooms on toast which was very nice. The room (room 2) was warm, clean and very comfortable with a sofa by the window so you could look out over the town. The instructions for the coffee machine are ***** proof because even i could follow them. I would recommend staying here if you are looking for a b and b in this area,

Excellent hotel super clean and comfortable. Staff very welcoming and accommodating. Excellent choice for breakfast and cooked very well. Great location in easy reach of everything. Parking not the best so we ditched our car for the week as trains and buses are on the door step and run frequently at reasonable prices.
