This place is perfect for a solo traveler. It's about a 10-minute walk from the port, but it's uphill, so dragging luggage can be a bit tiring. It's an old renovated house with no elevator, so you'll have to carry your bags up yourself. To the left, there's a famous coffee shop, the 'Yu Shi同款' one, and further down is an incredibly delicious Italian restaurant. There are info sheets placed all around the property, which are very helpful. The kitchen is large and well-equipped, making it great for a working holiday. Free parking is available, and everything is self-service. The kitchen has both Chinese and English instructions, including a note saying the tap water is clean and doesn't need to be boiled. It seems the reason Chinese people drink hot water needs to be explained to the whole world – it's not because of hygiene issues, but simply because we don't drink cold water.

I loved my stay here! My stay started with one of the most meaningful and insightful conversations I’ve had while travelling, thanks to the friendly owner. It was wonderful for two people from different parts of the world to share perspectives in such a safe, welcoming environment. Not to mention how interesting the place! The interior design is unique and comfortable, striking a perfect balance between modern and vintage styles. Located right in Battery Point, it is ideal to fetch a good cup of coffee from local authentic cafes to start the day. And as a female, the cleanliness standard is commendable. As a female guest, I also appreciated the immaculate cleanliness, I checked in late and so to see a dry, spotless bathroom was a fantastic surprise. This is my first time solo travelling and my first night with Montacute brought me lot of ease as I explored Hobart, it was heartening that I almost wanted to visit the place again just to take a selfie with the owner!

The owner was very concise and straight to the point, highlighting all the key information. The hotel is located near the market and has its own backyard that can fit about ten cars. Coles and McDonald's are a twenty-minute walk away, and there's a Chinese restaurant right across the street. It's also very close to the port.
