Dong Fang Hotel

I booked this hotel for my mom's birthday. Beijing locals have a deep-seated affection for the Oriental Hotel, and she'd always wanted to visit. So, for her birthday, I sent my parents for an overnight stay to experience the 1918 Celebrity Suite. Below is the WeChat message my mom sent me, insisting I include it in the review: "On my birthday, I finally checked into the Oriental Hotel, a place I'd been longing to visit. Though it was only for one night, I was completely enveloped in warmth and kindness. The front desk thoughtfully presented me with a lucky little horse, and in the room, surprises kept coming: cake, drinks, and fruit, one after another, filling me with warmth. Staying in the Celebrity Suite, every corner is a picturesque scene – it was so therapeutic for me, as someone who loves photography! The breakfast was abundant and fresh, and the service was meticulous and attentive; every staff member was gentle and polite. A short stay, but a perfect memory. Being treated with such care truly made me so happy!"

Took the kids to Beijing for Chinese New Year. Overall, it was pretty good value for money, though the facilities are a bit old. The indoor temperature couldn't quite reach around 23 degrees Celsius, and there's no underfloor heating. It's about a 10-minute walk to the subway, which is acceptable.

My stay at the Dongfang Hotel exceeded expectations. Not only is the location superb, nestled in the historic Xiangchang Road area of Dongcheng District, but the front desk service was incredibly responsive to all our requests, making us feel right at home. As a high-end hotel in what was a bustling commercial district during the Ming Dynasty, it also boasts a rich history, having hosted many revolutionary pioneers during the Northern Expedition. Another highlight was the delicious buffet breakfast; my grandparents absolutely raved about it, and it offered great value for money. We didn't get a chance to try the hotel's restaurant this time, but we'll save that for a future visit.

The room was clean and tidy. It's in the city center, and the subway and bus stops are all super convenient. Plus, there are restaurants and cafes downstairs – great spot for a visit!

The location is great, making it easy to get around. The service was excellent. Check-out time was 2 PM, but I got stuck in traffic and couldn't make it back on time. I called the front desk and they kindly extended my check-out by an hour for free.

The hotel's location is excellent, close to all the main attractions. It's a historic hotel with a rich cultural heritage and convenient transportation. Our room had a window; the south-facing ones offer views of the Temple of Heaven, and I assume the north-facing rooms might overlook the Qianmen Arrow Tower. The surrounding residential area is relatively quiet. While there aren't many shops right downstairs, a charming old *hutong* filled with local businesses is just a 10-minute walk away, offering a vibrant local atmosphere. As it's an older hotel, the rooms have fewer lights and power outlets, and the bathroom design is a bit dated, so it takes some getting used to. P.S. The hotel's own coffee shop is also excellent.
